random 659
We've always gotten them for free or swapped something or whatever, the few we have bought over the years are from Melton market and used to get them at around £2/3 each,a tenner I understand but after that I think you're being hopeful... random 659
In fact a mate of mine bred a litter a few years back as he wanted a couple and sold the rest for a fiver a kit and I thought he was winding me up till I saw a bloke hand the cash over! Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
I remember when ferrets cost a 5er, you got them in albino or polecat, and, if you were really lucky the guy had the colour you preferred. If not you were still happy to take what you got. Too much senseless breeding for money these days, and once something gets a name, albeit fictional, you can charge what you like, especially with a creative advert. I know a few chancers that have bred for money, and at the start of the season they may well get £15 for 1, 2, maybe 3 kits, but as the season goes on and the influx of kits builds, the price drops to £10 then £5... By end of it they cant wait to give them away, ask you to ask about cos they are eating them out of house and home. Then of course the inevitable happens... 1 Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
I used to mine from a local man, he's dead now, £3.00 each or two for a fiver! Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
Cheapest iv saw ferrets going for here in ireland is 20 euro for working ferrets. Seems to be the normal price for them. Once saw another advert where they didnt want to sell their ferrets to any hunters and they wanted 100 euro for it. When i stayed in scotland i never paid for a ferret ever. Near died when i bought my first 2 here. 25 euro each and i was sick handing the money over. 2 Quote Link to post
tb25 4,627
I think a lot of ferrits are under priced tbh...considering the years of hunting you can get out of them.. 3 Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
Would agree with you tb25. I begrudged handing money over for my ferrets because id never done it before. They were worth every cent. You would pay the right price for a working dog so why not ferrets. Once you have them you can keep your own stock and sort mates out with kits and be sorted out back when needed. But 20 euro is nothing to pay for a good working ferret. Maybe some guys wouldnt be so quick to dump their stock at the end of the year if they had paid for them either. 3 Quote Link to post
The one 8,594
I think there under priced thats why i dont breed mine every year and when i do mates get first offer , but with rabbit numbers still being low i dont think these kits will be the cash cow the breeders think and looking at the pictures on gumtree there feeding the kits crap and looking too get rid of them at 6 weekish 3 Quote Link to post

ferret lady 73
American mink cannot produce viable offspring with ferrets, so anyone who says they have such crosses is mistaken...to be tactful. Ferrets and polecats can produce offspring with European mink, but I believe the latter is rare to nonexistent in the UK. Quote Link to post

The one 8,594
Thats the thing that gets me most of the guys on here looking for a working ferret will get one free as they know theres going to be loads every summer and there just wanting worker to worker start it right and it should make the grade . But the folk that see angora or mink cross are looking for what i call a penis subistute spend there cash and dont have a clue how to look after a ferret and its the ferret that suffers in the long run Quote Link to post
