walshie 2,804
Just got some glyphosate that's supposed to be 4-5 times stronger than you can buy in B&Q. My mrs asked the guy who gave it to us how much to put in her 5 litre sprayer and he said "about an eggcup." Yes socks, I DO know what an eggcup is. Is there a specific ratio of glyphosate to water generally? I know it has to be stronger when you use a watering can rather than a sprayer. Sensible suggestions welcomed. The usual hilarious ones will be ignored.

Tiercel 6,986
I think the ratio is 50 mils per litre, but that is off the top of my head. Will have a look on the morrow at the Roundup I have in the shed. TC
trenchfoot 4,243
I mix ours at 15 to 1 ratio
Tiercel 6,986
The Roundup I have in the shed is normal over the counter stuff. I would go with Labs suggestion of 16ml if you have the concentrate. TC

Blackbriar 8,569
Professor Google says an eggcupful is 40ml, and that seems about right to me. Unlabelled agricultural chemicals, no instructions, limited knowledge. What could possibly go wrong ?
Ossie n Arch 1,683
I managed to blag some Glyphosate off the gardener of an estate we were working on a few years ago . Needed it for a troublesome path outside the house. Unbeknown, the then GF, poured it all on neat. Killed the weeds anyway, and I never had to do it again........... I get mine of a Farmer where a mate at works wife, keeps her Horses at. A paintbrush and paint it on neat to cut stems for hardier weeds, and be careful of the pond.

Read the Feckin label!! It's a white tin with "glypho" written on it in marker pen .
WILF 50,666
Well, based on my long weeks if study !!!......for the rush, top them then wait for the fresh re growth, bruise them then spray then......repeat again back end of the summer then plenty of lime to sort the PH of the soil. I have 3 ha of the b*****ds here to sort and I have declared war !! Lol......hopefully, this time next year will see it back to decent pasture.
Tiercel 6,986
A tip I was given for waxy plants like mares tail and rushes is to add some fairy liquid to the spray, apparently it breaks down the waxy covering of the plant and allows the glyphosate to permeate the plant. Worked with the mares tail, till the next year, then had to repeat. TC

Luckily the guy who has sheep here is dealing most of the rushes. He topped them a couple of weeks ago. We just need to tidy up a few years of neglect.
