tom17 18
Looking into buying this air rifle off a mate has anyone had any experience with it and is it worth buying? Thanks Tom Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
No, in a word, how much is your mate charging you for it? The Gamo Whisper is garnering nearly as bad a reputation as the BSA Lightning! Quote Link to post
tom17 18
£150 for gun, scope, silencer, bag and a few tins of pellets But it's its shocking I don't want it aha, Need one for shooting feral pigeons/rats at the farm but haven't got a really big budget as i only work part time and have a car to run Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Buy the v-mach tuned hw35 that is for sale in the ads section, 100 times better rifle, and well within your budget, if it has gone, I would advise you to save up a little, and buy a HW whatever, unless you are going to spend a lot of time and money on the Gamo you will at best have a rather twangy, gritty, rifle with a very poor trigger. 4 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
I'm with Charlie here. A decent condition 2nd user Weihrauch makes great financial sense if a budget is the constraining factor. You are still getting a world-class spring rifle that will last a lifetime. Gamo are really bloody horrible guns. Cheap metals, poorly built and the worse triggers of all. Nothing I've seen or shot with of thiers fills me with as much as a glimmer of confidence to go hunting with humane killing accuracy. Quote Link to post
random 659
The only gamo rifle I've used had a jubilee clip round it to hold the action in the stock! It was an old knock around that my mates dad used to shoot targets in the garden, not really a fair view and probably irrelevant as one bad one isn't necessarily the standard but thought I'd mention it,anyway I agree with the advice so far,buy a hw/aa or other top end and don't look back... 1 Quote Link to post
Coypu Hunter 486
I've owned a Gamo Shadow 640 (first air rifle) and a FAC Hunter 440 DX. Both truly horrible rifles, avoid Gamo like the plague. 1 Quote Link to post

tom17 18
I think I'll take everyone's advice and save up and get a decent one instead 1 Quote Link to post
Newlife2 55
Just 5 days ago I bought a less than loved 1987 Diana 43 ,( 1987!), after bathing in degreaser and installing a Vortek kit, was hitting a spinner at 48 yards. . Point I`m trying to make is , take a look at quality second user guns , they can be brought back to life, maybe mine will last another 28 years.. PS cost was less than 50% of new.. Rez 4,961
I think it'll be fine for your purpose of shooting ferals and rats... Just don't expect dropping head shots in @ 25 yards. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I had a Gamo Maxima in .177, the wood was nice, and to be fair the build quality was not bad, it was less twangy and more accurate after I gave it a proper lube, what really let it down was the dreadful trigger, I was going to install a Charlie da-tuner trigger in it which improves them beyond belief, but I got an offer for it and sold it, I do think if I had gone to town tuning it, it would have ended up a decent rifle, but why bother, when you can buy an HW ......... and just go and shoot it.
