Last Minute Outing

Recommended Posts

had a phone call from bird just after teatime last night to arrange a trip out next week but during the phone call i asked him if he fancied a night out on the lamp but only if another chap let me down. the forecast was looking good for a decent nights lamping and we didnt make it out on the wednesday night has planned due to it being foggy.

bird ended up coming out with me. we got to a spot where the rabbits are hard caught on the first few fields because they are on a steep bank, the fields are not massive but they are divided into smaller sections buy sheep fencing which meant the dogs were having to jump a fence on almost every rabbit they run. anyway we picked up a hard earnt 8 rabbits before crossing the road onto some better fields. the rain was just right but the wind was stronger than forecast which went in our favour, but then some cloud must have blown over and caused a fog for the next 2 fields which ment we didnt catch there as we couldnt see 20 yards. the fog blew over/past but i had decided to cut the walk short and go some where else due to that spate of fog. by the time we had got back to the car we had got another 9 which took us upto 17.

on the way to the other spot i had in mind which was lower down i stopped at a couple of fields that hold a few rabbits. buster took another 4 at the first stop and buck took 3 at the second stop which left us wanting 6 for 30 when we got to where i was planning be. we got to the spot and walked for a hour or so with both dogs catching ok. the night ended on 38 rabbits buck accounting for 15 and buster the other 23. bird should have a picture to put on.

a good night again, both dogs have been running very well the last 6 weeks, getting good bags , and we wanted to keep them ticking over for next week last trip out for the season. it was as bloody cold+wet I was totally soaked through, I can handle that , but me hands were froze , couldn't feel my me right hand all night, jon were worse than mine as gutting the rabbits all night long so his hands get warm then cold, it soon gets to your hands like that. Buster was on fire he was catching really, he made it look easy at times , a real top class dog , he even caught well after I hurt his foot on the fence as got over  , Buck missed few , he knocked nail off last week , I think that might be affecting him a bit, as deff lame with it today . But he still got few so dint blank lol , will rest him up for 5 days , so he up for the last trip next Friday . couple pics 38 , Buck 15 , Buster 23

who needs the Dales when you lads have got the lot.

You don't know how lucky you are sometimes to be able to go out close to home and have nights like that.

well done chaps.=wet

yeh i know what you mean vin , its hard old slog traveling 4 hours lamping then 4 hours home , done it a lot of times gone by it soon tests you more so as you get older like me lol, so its nice to not go those distances now . but suppose if you do go say like the dales you want get big bag for all the effort in the 1st place. a lot of the rabbits me and jon have had , have been quite hard deff more so now, as soon as the lamp its them there off and away.Buster great dog as you know, even he as to work quite hard at them , Buck ok suppose he does well for what he is a big heavy dog , not really built for rabbits or most things lol, but he gives 100% on what you put him on. was cold last night me hands still swollen up lol
