Hello guys and girls

A mate of mine is having trouble with a few rats that moved into an old storage staick caravan on his land iv covered all the holes and the little turds keeps getting in iv even found droppings in impossible places the rats are impressive little things but they need to go! I don't want to poison them because there is lots of other wildlife about iv been there a cupple of nights with my bsa ultra and a red gun lamp but they won't come out so I was looking for some advice on The best baits and distance I should be from the hole and best pellets you found for rats thanks corey.

Iv layeda cupple yesterday and a small live trap I found in work but they haven't touched them yet so I'll check tomorow in the ideal world I'd like to shoot them and have a bit of fun but if the traps work traps I will have to be

With traps it can take them a wee while too get used to them and get caught , try something like tuna blended with olive oil put down to hold them till you can shoot them mate , but you might be better with somebody with a smoker and terriers to clean them out

I'm just going to go every night this week is there a best time to go for rats I love the terrier idea but I only have a staffy and he's my girlfriends baby he's a big pussy haha

set up a feeding station few bags corn etc and sit tight they find it soon enough give you some sport maybe

Your better liquidizing a food mate so they cant grab a bit and run off with it

Nice one guys il take all the advice given I was out for 3 and a bit hours to night and didn't even see one but I'll keep trying

Hi Dragon,

One of the best ways of catching nervous rats was to bait the ordinary " snap trap" with peanut butter and leave the trap " UN- cocked" and allow the rats to feed off them until they become used to them.

When the rats are used to them - set them cocked and ready. Snap traps are lethal. (Make sure you take your rifle with you to inspect your traps)

Also have a look at rat snares and traps - top right of this page and type whip snares into the search engine, its all there mate.

Thanks mark ill try just baiting them for a cupple of days they still haven't touched the traps that are set maby the traps still smell of me abit

What time usually do rats come out

any time as long as its quiet . when you are baiting and waiting try to use small amounts of bait so the rat as to stop there longer rather it draging a big piece away

No Torchey rats learn very quickly indeed.

When they see another rat trapped on the first attempt of trapping you wont get another. When they see a rat trapped after say two weeks of taking food from these traps without consequences they get caught in decent numbers before they realise. Then you go onto snaring them.
