secretagentmole 1,701
Well finally I have a working Walther RM8. The beast is running 10 .73 ft lb in .177 using Defiant Ogives. The cocking is much better than the R8 in .22 that I originally had. The trigger seems better too! Had QD studs fitted after checking the power this time (see I do learn). Went down to the permission to set the scope up. Took lunch with me. The Co-op have a special on Mr Kipling mince pies 25p a box! Took a box of those with me too! Get down and find that like on the previous Walther the rear mount needs shims! Idiot here forgot the shims. Mince pies come in thick foil dishes. Improvised some shims, going to replace those next time I take it out! Anyway managed to get it zeroed and there was plenty of pressure left. So I decided to let The Major have a go at pigeon shooting. First couple came in and settled in a tree 10 yards away. A nice tall birch. Got a good line on the head, pull, thwack of pellet hitting home. Thwack of pigeon hitting the deck. Retrieved and a few more settled on the big oak to the left. Aim, fire, in ditch. Managed to get it out though! A big wave came in behind me, I managed to turn and stalk to a firing position. Another one bit the dust. Number 4 landed just as I got back to the firs I use for cover. Direct ahead and in the same birch as number 1, not the same branch though. It too fell to a Defiant Ogive. Then there was a lull before another big wave came in. I managed to get a line on one. Another pigeon bit the leaves. Some pigeons landed in the far empty tree. I stalked up using the laurels as cover. I hit the one highest up and it fell into a damned great fir tree and disappeared. I could not see where it went. So it is somewhere up there! Not bad for his first day out! 3 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Very nice in casserole last night! The wife makes a superb American recipe up that has tomatoe puree, bay leaves, celeriac, carrots, garlic and onions in it. Pigeon breasts are wrapped in pairs in bacon and cooked in this, served with mashed potatoes! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
8 Pigeon breasts 8 rashers streaky bacon 1 onion 4 cloves garlic 2 large carrots 1 celeriac tomato puree chicken stock optional red wine Method Season breasts and brown very quickly in a little oil. Take them out of the pan and brown off the onion, garlic carrot and celeriac. Take out veg and sprinkle the pan with a little flour and a squeeze of tomato puree Give this a good stir and add the wine and stock. Allow to simmer for a couple of minutes making sure you stir out any lumps. Meanwhile pair up the breast and wrap them in 2 rashers of bacon to give 4 little parcels (this will keep them nice and moist). Put pigeon, veg, a bay leaf and sauce into a casserole dish and cook at say 170C for 1 – 11/2 hours. Take 4 slices of white bread, trim off crusts, cut into triangles and fry in oil to make nice crunchy croutons. Once the stew is cooked finish with a handful of chopped parsley and serve with the croutons and some nice Potato and Celeriac mash. Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
The R8 is a nice gun. Bit long with the silencer on and very reminiscent in the stock of the Mk 3 Escort! Good shot count though and this one actually indexes easily (the .22 was graunchy). It balances easily in use and with the barrel weight on is a little nose heavy but not too bad (certainly not up to the Super 10 nose weight). The trigger though single stage is reliable and is crisp enough to hold on "bite" just before firing! Safety is manual only and at least is fitted! A nice gun, but basically an Airmagnum with an air bottle! 1 Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Bout time I saw an R8 in action... I didn't even realise it was an 8 to be honest. Even more a shame about the image Keep us informed about that rifle. Quote Link to post
