Ossie n Arch 1,683
Here goes then. I'd bang in 1000 fish of 6" to 8" size. With maybe a few bigger specimens as well. Roach. Bream. Tench. Rudd. Crucians and some Gudgeon. If you fancy some colour, then some Orfe.

NEWKID 28,419
Just think about the growth of the fish, too many fish will stunt the growth. A 1lb roach or Rudd in a farm pond is a good fish But tench and bream could go 7lb+ in a water like that if there is good natural food. Put a good head in to start with but you may need to net it in 5 years time to keep on top of it. That deep water should make it fishable all year and if you get some decent sized roach in there the winter fishing could be good. Tench and crucians in the summer on the waggler.... Get the breakfast on trish I'm on my way lol
walshie 2,804
Oh is that what the link said? Sorry Arch I get confused easily. That's given me something to think about. Cheers. What's a 6* tench weigh? About 1/4 pound? Really fancy tench as I haven't caught one since I was a kid. I think I'd rather understock and let them grow rather than overstock and have to net them. So possibly 500 fish to start with? And as Arch said a couple of biggers ones to spice it up.

Ossie n Arch 1,683
You may need a Section 30. Not sure though. https://www.gov.uk/permission-to-move-live-fish-to-or-from-a-fishery
walshie 2,804
The lady who lives there at the moment will know about that. i'll give her a ring tomorrow. I don't THINK that applies to private ponds.
perthshire keeper 1,239
well i used to look after and manage 5 ponds that were hired out under contract to gleneagles hotel, they averaged 14 foot deep 40m wide and meters long most in a off oval. and we aimed to have 40-50 fish in each,

gnipper 6,756
Are you sure it's not already got plenty of fish in there?
walshie 2,804
I'm only going by what the previous owner said. She said there used to be trout in there but they were fished out a couple of years ago. She reckons a couple of eels, but i'll still give it a fish to see if there's any stragglers. Probably a 20lb rainbow in there by now.
gnipper 6,756
It might be just that they stopped getting bites on the fly and it could be a good pit full of tench and crucians. Get down there with some maggots and a bread punch.
walshie 2,804
I intend to mate. Might get rid of the eels at least.
