Being new to .17 HMR shooting,I have noticed that two or three times the round had sounded like it is ricocheting through the air before hitting anything is this normal,conditions have been still and quiet when has accrued,has any one else had this happen or are things normal for this round.

A visible near miss and a not visible miss.

A supersonic crack could sometimes sound like a whiz sound.

Out of truck and a sitting position,but it was a out of normal sound that seemed to carry through the air for some distance.

I have noticed something like that before but have just put it down to a sort of echo

Going to put some more rounds through rifle tomorrow and see if grouping is still OK.

Check your rounds arnt clipping your mod

Took mod of noticed a bit of brass in rifling at end of barrel and in mod, assume this is normal ?.

U prob mean copper, you might have prob with the threading of your mod/barrel meaning your mod is not 100% in line with your barrel causing the round to clip your mod this ricochet sound.

Recommend trying without mod to see if you get the same sound

If he removes the mod I think the bang will mask any whizzing sounds he is trying to listen to.

Depends how far round travels before hits target? A mod only reduced muzzle blast not the sonic crack
