Accip74 7,112
one of mine was not a numbers night or anything was when my little lad aged 6 came on his first ferreting trip after setting a net with a little help he stood there guarding and fixed on his net when a bunny bolted pursing it self good and proper the look and then the delight on his face was priceless and the only rabbit he carried round was that one and has soon has he got home he couldnt wait to show anyone and everyone his catch and how he trapped it with his net It's those moments that mean way more than numbers..... 2 Quote Link to post

dogmad riley 1,348
I don't think the hunting game is about numbers it's about being out enjoying your mutts and if you got kids enjoying time together. I think a dog pulling something special off beats a dog catching 20 easy rabbits 3 Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Good pics lads. My best night and best day on the bunnys... i can remember the day and night well,,, ,We will better the night this season for deffo. Not sure about the day. That was a hard days ferreting and would take some beating. lol i dont think that wud take much beating,,,next time we will stay till mid day,,, Haha ok you're on. There is more to the game than numbers deffo. I've had some little trips out with my daughter and only caught a couple and loved it just as much as the big nights if not more. But it's still nice to put a big bag away now and again and be able to say you tested your stock a bit, wether that's dogs or ferrets. Mooching about bagging a handful here and there is no test for anyone but enjoyable none the less. Quote Link to post

I see what your saying gaz but I think testing a dog is putting it against a good strong winter hare, Fox deer illegal in know, a rabbit is a test but how many? Once a dog has caught 10 does it need testing anymore or does it need moving up a level? Quote Link to post

We can only hunt rabbits now so I leave it at that. Any dog will do 10 rabbits. They won't all do 100 so numbers can be used as a test I think if one wishes. Quote Link to post
dogmad riley 1,348
Maybe so but 100 rabbits it's a fitness test that's it any dog will learn how to work a rabbit, practice makes perfect but pre ban quarry is a different matter Quote Link to post

Exactly what I am getting at mate but don't think I'd ever see 100 in one night, must be some land to hold 100 rabbits although it does exist as I have seen tomo and tjones posts they do very well at the numbers game Quote Link to post

weasle 1,119
First two dogs gave me some of best memorys,Hunting for hours and hours rats to deer and anything in between urban rural,Walking for 3 hours to local estate run a hare or two then back hunting as we went. Getting up at 2 walking a couple of hours to favourite spot couple of hours hunting then walk back intime to go to school. One of those mornings waiting at first field for it to get light dog starts telling me she wants to get on lane i lose her hear claws on the road,Feel somthing run across my feet and growls as he almost ran straight into my legsmy first close incounter with mr fox. Now days find i can catch as much as i want to carry twice a night and not remember a thing about it. Yet can go out with another dog for a hour and come home buzzing. Its all about style in dog for me. Edited September 26, 2014 by weasle 4 Quote Link to post
