they all have their guns closed when stood in company

It was common practice 40 years ago

Thankfully, attitudes to that have moved on somewhat

It was common practice because it was widely known/believed that it put undue stress on the hinge pin and lead to the barrels becoming off face by carrying an open gun and to be honest with the way firearms where manufactured back then they probably had a point.

Still got this book from many many years ago and watched the film.

I had the book but lent it out one too many times... I can still vaguely remember the fox bolting scene near the beginning of the series.

How times were different on tv back then... Darbo do you remember that documentary in maybe 1980 about the gamekeeper and the poacher, think it was done for Granada tv.

And there was a kids series called Kizzy, about a young half bred traveler girl, that series had a few lurchers around the camp.kizzy.jpg

Times were certainly different on tv back then Bosun. I remember kizzy. I remember watching a programme back then set in norfolk about a poacher and gamekeepers. He had a deerhound lurcher there was a lamping scene and shooting pheasants at night but i cant remember what it was called. i remember watching the plummer ones a hunting man and lone furrow. i also remember watching a documentary 1975 about a few young lads from Leigh starting work at a pit and mooching with the lurchers and a bit of ferreting :whistling: Funny enough i came across it on youtube last week its called Plank Lane Ferreting and its got subtitles :thumbs:
