pablo esc 1,598
Just wondering what the opinion was on the English b, cross, and off people who'd bred a few of them, heard of fellas following suit but the were probably shit for earth work and probably given end of digs,,, the not the same as the old one's, even though they weren't used for that or hunting,,, seen a Wheaton, first cross, ebt, staff,, 30 year back,, of a man, yan, rest his soul, to big for earthwork, but drawn a fox out of a wood stack, hardy bitch Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,902
well, heres my tuppence worth.i had both e/b terrier crosses and some were top class workers.they went and stayed till the job was done no matter how long it took.some lost their good looks very early on,some lost their life for being too determined and some lost their lives cause they were shit.I kept a lot of them in the early 80's and had a few e/b cross staffs and strong dogs also and the cross breds were very gamey, the pure breds were not.i have a neighbour that has a good few e/b russells for next year,he has a few from last year and he has a couple of pure e/b's as well.Ive never seen em go but he swears they are the biz and i take his word for it...................but as you know seeing is believing. 1 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Yan from Llandudno Pablo, dog dealer? As someone who's owned and worked an EBT, I'd tell anyone who thinks that they would be worth a punt, don't bother...! (I was a keen kid in a different world and I just got lucky). No different than any other fancy breed, because there are far more tried, tested and trusted breeds to choose from. Sure, if you see a litter and you feel you 'may' get sommat out of it and it wouldn't bother you too much if ya didn't, then fine, take a punt. Same as folk who have terriers with EBT blood, if they work well, good stuff! Better to use a line where EBT is in the blood BUT don't go thinking that breeding in EBT blood will make your dog(s) any better, because it probably won't and for every decent EBT or cross, think on of how many failed, size alone would render at least half of 'em out and thats before ability!! Don't forget, EBT's were created for the show bench, form never followed function..!! Real Working Terriers are tough enough to breed, don't go thinking that some exotic blood will make 'em any better..!!!!!! Quote Link to post

"Don't forget,EBT's were created for the show bench, form never followed function..!!"...and theres the truth of it right there!...the EBT never was a working breed...for it to be a EBT it has to look like an EBT...and when breeding for 'looks' working abilty gets compromised 2 Quote Link to post

*The*Field*Marshall* 674
From what I can gather the EBTs working ability has suffered from being at the hands of individuals who have concentrated on breeding for a certain look rather than looking to keep the minerals they were once forged from, much like a lot of other breads. . I know a man who keeps working type EBTs, he swears by them and has sent dog to France, Germany and other places for working ventures. Quote Link to post
