jf1970 328
Done the tourer caravan for a few year's. .It was expensive and needed a big motor to tow which was also expensive to run...sold up bought a tent . We go to Newquay ..Watergate bay. .kids love it. More friendly people on tent fields imo..too many looking down their noses at each other in caravans .Yeah thought about the towing as well, I am only after getting a new car 5 myths ago and i don't think it would be big enough to tow caravan, i think a trailer tent would suit more. Stick maximum tow weight in Google and your motors make n model, that'll give you an exact weight of legal load. I've got a bailey ranger 4 berth at the minute that weighs 850kg unladen. Couple hundred kg of kit in the van, plus a bit in the motor, you might be ok with your current motor.
the_stig 6,614
had a tourer ended up found a nice site and left it parked up it was around 140quid for the year and 8 quid a night when we pulled it onto the pitch mind this was a few year back---had tents its great with kids if its fine but hard work if it pisses down ---had a static great used to fook off every other weekend and the mrs n kids took all the school holidays there got rid when the kids grew up downside is the ground rent some are 2k plus a year------------- if I was doing it again I`d buy a big old van with an awning and inner tents ------always pay that bit more for a hook up and take a fan heater ...

jf1970 328
@Dixiefried, my wife likes her comforts aswell, that's why a campsite is a must, I remember when I was a child and all the family used to go camping up north in Scotland, it was some of the best holidays we had, there was always something to do, playing on the beach, fishing or just pissing about with my dog, I would like my kids to enjoy those sort of holidays and give them a feel for the outdoors. jf1970 328
oh right stig, I might not bother calling them then lol, do you think if I found a good trailer tent, have you had one of them before?
Carraghs Gem 1,699
we had a trailer tent... dunno how far the technology for em has come in last decade but it was a 2man job putting ours up and was no easy task... ours was 4 berth with awning and additional tents underneath the beds... think a large tent would be a better job tbh
Blackbriar 8,569
You should only tow 85% of your car's kerbside weight, including any load you've put into the caravan. You can find this on the little VIN plate that's usually attached to the drivers door pillar), BUT each model of caravan has it's own weight limit, irrespective of what's towing it (if that makes sense?) Over the years, we've worked our way through various tents, but very soon we'll be off on our first caravan adventure (made possible by a THL member) - and we can't wait ! Go for it, mate, especially with the kids - happy days !
