perthshire keeper 1,239
The bottom line is that you'll need to look into whatever breed you choose. From experience, if I were in your shoes, it'd be a Lakeland type for me, off working parents. Lakies can be gassy, fiery types in the main and need little or no introduction to tackling.... well, just about anything!! To me they are ideal dogs for keen youngsters, very forgiving and very driven. yup like he said..... i love a lakey..driven and not (i dont know the word for it?) easly broken/ruined/ their very forgiving and i love the term some one on hear used about my lakies..."all piss and vinegar" 1 Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
Personally I would go for a Russell. Not worked a pure beddy for rabbits but have a small beddy/whip, good temperament, keen for work but was very headstrong early on although settled down now. Quote Link to post

jcm 2,327
I got a lakey as my first dog for bushing and he turned out a right little grafter he from digging dogs but I only use him for bushing mooching etc and like has been said very forgiving dogs but are very head strong he has slipped into a few holes but as soon as I see him I call him out before he runs the earth good job his recall is good as I don't carry a spade, however I can only make a comment on a lakey as it's the only one I've owned seen a few different terriers work a few times but couldn't make judgement on them as a whole as I have only seen them work a hand fully of times Quote Link to post
