This is all part of "The Great Game", as Rudyard Kipling termed it. It has been going on for over 200 years between Russia and the west, and is all about who controls Central Asia. We fought the Russi

We can now see the huge mistake our planners have made in thinking Russia wasn't a threat any more and that massive land wars were a thing of the past. Because they believed all future deployments wo

On another note, I see America is cutting back its defense budget, reducing troop numbers. They don't want involved in costly long battles like they have recently. Not just us doing it then.... :hmm:

He simply can not allow the Ukraine to fall under western control! The Russian Black Sea Fleet is based in the Crimea and he couldn't allow it to be surrounded by what the Russians consider "the enemy". We should keep out of it, as the Americans will, and let's see what the EU can do without us !!

The Crimea is key in this.. Worst case scenario is it declares independence from the Ukraine and Russia helps it to achieve it. I looked it up earlier, Ukraine inherited 30% of the Soviet military when the USSR fell, it's armed to the teeth. It don't need the US or EU to back it up..

Malt, they inherited an obsolete diesel sub and a few aging frigates. The deal was Russia would keep Sebastabol in the Crimea as a major naval base and guarantee Ukraines safety. Now they want to be part of the EU, all bets will be off.

Russia wont take any serious military action against Ukrain, it'd be mental! If the Ukrainians are seriously wanting to 'join the west' then they'd be in NATO in a flash. But they wouldn't need to be in NATO to have that protection. The West wont just sit by and watch the Russians throw their weight about, that's a dangerous game to let run. We know that, the Russians know that.......... nothing is going to happen.

And this is exactly why we need to maintain a nuclear deterant. It keeps shit harmonious! We don't all get along because we have reached a superior state of civilisation, we all get along because it's f***ing suicidal not to!

Really? What about the 5000 odd armoured vehicles they have in service and the couple of hundred jets? When the USSR fell they inherited all the military that was based in the country, and seeing as most of it was the main soviet ground force that would invade Western Europe in the event of a war, it was a f***ing lot! They also inherited nukes but they gave them up voluntarily..
