Beretta A400 Running In Suggestions Please

Hi,

 

Just bought a new Beretta A400 Xplor Light.

 

My dealer advised me to break it in using 36 gms cartridges. I was going to use it on clays for the first time and the location I use has a maximum load of 28 gms cartridges. I have some 32 gms cartridges, but 36

gms cartridges are not exactly an everday size.

 

Is my dealer just being cautious?

 

What would you advise?

 

Can I get away with 32gm or even 28gm?

Id do as he said u need to get the springs working in it ,useing light loads for new it may not cycle proper with 28 grams

Your 'dealer' is not cautious, he's just a 'dealer'.

Breaking in a shotgun!! That's a new one on me!!

He is more worried that 28gr clay loads won't cycle and you'll be back wanting a fix.

Your gun should cycle on most anything especially a Beretta (not any of that Turkish

cack).

If you can only use 28g loads then that's all you can shoot,

 

I can see where the dealer is coming from in that a heavier load will probably loosen the action faster than lighter loads but not everything is about weight,

 

The larger the load of lead then generally the slower it will be pushed by the cartridge, however the recoil may be comparable to a lighter load travelling very fast.

 

For instance, there may be the same felt recoil from 36gr of No.5s travelling at 1300FPS as there is from a 28g FITASC clay load travelling at near 1700FPS.

 

It will break in and I'm sure a Beretta when broken in will cycle everything.

What does the Beretta Manual say?

 

I would not be too concerned, probably best to forget very light or low recoil carts for the first box or two though.

I bought a Beretta Outlander last year and was told by the chap at Beretta to put a couple of boxes of heavy carts through it to loosen it up.

But i only fire 32gr or over through it anyway.

Just noticed a big yellow sticker on the outside of the case that says to fire 32gm carts with plastic wads for the first 50 shots. Unfortunatley its to late as I have now fired 2 boxes of 28 gm carts with fibre wads.

 

It cycled OK today so only time will tell how it performs.

if it is cycling light loads fine now it will always cycle.

The manual for my berretta extreme2 says to use heavy loads to start with, which i did and it now cycles anything although i rarely use 28grm as i am not a clay shooter.

I will be trying some 24gms at the weekend so I will see then how it performs.

Thats a new one on me too, breaking in a shotgun, its a quality gun as said not some Turkish shi*e, get shooting it and stop worrying.
