Otter E-Petition

Recommended Posts

Dear Anglers,

Please take a look at this e-petition, and sign it.

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/59529

It will help a great deal if you could share this link on other websites, forums, social media etc.

If your area is not affected, please still consider signing and sharing. It's only a matter of time before they arrive...

If you are unsure of the damage they cause, a quick internet search will give you plenty of info.

Thanks

(Could this be pinned to the top please?)

so there decimating fresh water stocks. And wiping out eels But you want the full protection to remain may i remind you or maybe you dont know otter hounds were NOT banned from hunting otters the

I think you’ve got to be realistic on this one; there’s absolutely no way the general public will support an otter cull. It’s just not going to happen.   People don’t understand how ecosystems work,

I think you summed it up perfectly there mate - "moderation is the key".   We all like to see them, they're a wonderful native species, I'm sure no-one wants an otter witch hunt.... But there have b

I think you summed it up perfectly there mate - "moderation is the key".

We all like to see them, they're a wonderful native species, I'm sure no-one wants an otter witch hunt.... But there have been many illegal releases, or poorly considered re-introductions that have meant the otter populations in certain locations are booming - and pose a serious problem.

They're not only a problem for fish stocks, they take birds too. A lot of rare species use wetlands, and otters will happily hunt for them - successfully.

Sign it or don't, but there is a big problem out there that won't get better without some form(s) of management - the petition is one of the things that might just allow the legislation to be reconsidered.

ile done it...as much as i like them....by f**k their destructave ive lost hundreds and hundreds of duck to them every year we would lose sleep over witch release pond would be hit by them.....they kill them and just eat the parsons nose and pull a head off.

ive bolted them while foxing and the only terrier ive ever lost in action was by a otter in a ACTIVE fox earth...

In the river systems up here it is sawbills that are a greater concern and are devastating young salmon and seatrout ...we can shoot them on licence but the numbers they quoted us to shoot will make little differance but we conducted a smaolt sheparding programme last year basically scaring birds by using flags strategacly placed gas guns shootguns etc etc ...an adult goosander will eat 300-500grams of smolt or parr a day a parr wieghs around 6-8 grams so the numbers they take if you have large numbers of these birds on your system it has to have an effect ....hopefully in a year or 2 when these adult salmon return to our river we will see if the smolt sheparding was a success .

As for otters I know they being introduced to rivers down south which is cuasing an artifitial enviroment but up here where they naturaly breed and spread out it is not a problem as otters are a solitary animal .

Perthshire keeper there are mink packs in your area you just need to know where to find them
