I've just really got in to it Pete and tbh i can't get enough of it,it's so addictive i spent age's in the aviary and just loose track of time some times and im not in it for the money or so i can say i have the best show quality birds.i'd rather give birds away to people i know look after them than for a massive amount of money and tbh i don't really like the show quality birds there way to big and dull in colour.i love it because i get to wake up in the morning and see them singing away in the aviary and there quite funny little characters and it just brings me a massive buzz when it comes to times like this

I'm only 16 and the first time I've done it properly i first started with a pair of canaries at the start of last year and this was in my room but they bred and had some lovely chicks but didn't have room for them so i have them all to my grandad and then set out on building my on aviary ready for this year and with some help from my grandad i did just that and started to collect birds again half way into the year to get ready for this year and now were here i can't wait :D

Nice to see the younger generation getting into birds (featherd version) that is.

Hope you all the success spartan, British finches aren't the easiest to breed, keep them clean when you can, give the hens space and avoid eye contact when there sitting and watch the cock bird with the eggs/chicks they some times prick eggs and kill there own chick/young so they can tred the hen again.

That's Just the level of enthusiasm the hobby needs today!

And how can i not help him with that enthusiasm Pete? ,it'd be fecking criminal not to  and i sure don't mind helping you with what i can Spartan as you want to learn and improve on your bird knowledge and this hobby's future will be down to lads and lasses like yourself.Your'll breed some birds this year of that i'm sure and i can't wait to see it all happen for you mate either :victory: .

This site is good for the beginners but could be much more helpful. So come on any tips you think might help anyone just started in the game.

anything that's helped you out over the years with problems you've had.

When I started losing young green finches i read a great article advising the use of intradine 5 times a week (mon-fri) weekends off, from when they first leave the nest up until they finish there first molt. Wish i hade seen it sooner.

Get as much dandelion heads into your goldies as you can to bring them into breading condition, but i found siskins can go a bit mental and chase the hen to exhaustion if they get to much.

Come on anyone else got a couple of (harmless) tips in other words lads no piss takes incase they take it as the gospel.
