Blackbriar 8,569
conspiracy number 2, fracking if cheaper would become more acceptable to the public I can't believe anyone would oppose us being self-sufficient in gas for decades - they'd rather we stayed in hock to the Russians and the Arabs !
paulus 26
conspiracy number 2, fracking if cheaper would become more acceptable to the public I can't believe anyone would oppose us being self-sufficient in gas for decades - they'd rather we stayed in hock to the Russians and the Arabs ! the investors have already invested in our future energy needs and are counting their returns already, the won't let something like fracking get in the way of that
Malt 379
The Chinese will be taking huge stakes in our future energy provision: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24561325 Also, our last coal fired power stations are to close over the next few years, so we can comply with EU legislation. Germany have got 4 brand new coal fired power stations coming on line or in development.. Don't we have any coal in this country? Edit: Sorry, Germany have 5 brand new coal fired power stations that have been fired up for the first time over the last couple of months.. Ain't they in the EU and all..? Blackbriar 8,569
If we'd stuck with the coal-fired, we'd be producing more of our own power and tens of thousands of men would still be in work ! (Had to get that one in!) The Sizewell 'C' nuclear plant (if it ever gets built) will mean that British consumers will be buying their electricity from a French company (EDF), who produce it in a plant built by the Chinese ! The level of infrastructure has not kept pace with increased demand, and I don't enjoy being a pessimist, but I genuinely wonder if we will be able to keep the lights on in the coming few years. Secure energy future......................? Edited October 17, 2013 by Blackbriar
tandors 888
Hinkley point nuclear power station will be owned by the french and the chinese who as part of the deal will get twice as much money per megawatt than is the trading price for about 40 years even if its not competitive and no one buys the energy lol. I bet the chinks are laughing their heads off at whats happening to europe with this and the mass importation of immigrants.

So that's the French state and the Chinese state the profits of this venture will be going too..
BOLIO1 1,078
If food banks have been discovered by the parasitic element in society then it's no wonder their use has increased. It's a function of the failure of socialism rather than of a failure of government. I.M.H.O.

Huan72 687
IMO it is a mistake to get the Chinese involved with our energy supplies. The balance of power is slowly changing in the world, we seem intent on speeding that process up by selling everything to the highest bidder. China has a very long history and many years ago could have dominated the world if a few things had bounced their way.................they wont make the same mistake again. We should strive to be as self sufficient as possible, in the fickle world of international politics, your friend in the morning can be your enemy in the afternoon
Malt 379
Made me chuckle seeing Osbourne on the news saying this was good news because they'd have money to spend on hospitals and schools instead.. As if the Chinese are giving us the billions condition free.. What he doesn't say is its US, the end users who are going to be in debt and paying the Chinese back on their investment with interest for the next 40 years..
Huan72 687
I have a feeling this is the start of a very long slippery slope for us. Energy, to put it in its simplest terms..................heat, light and transport are essential in the modern world and we are relying on other countries to provide it................this could well be the beginning of the end...IMO The politicians need to review history to see what happens when countries out source their essentials.........................if you don't control it you cant guarantee it
