At the end of the day, the bloke is not here to defend himself. He has spent his lifetime hunting , working hounds and terriers. OK, his terriers/methods may not be everyones cup of tea, but the old lads a veteran now and probably dug more than most....maybe its time to leave this thread and let it die......

IF people want to buy one of his pups then its up to them, they have been warned now.......

I have both books by EC and i think they are in the top league of terrierbooks, and its nice to read a man that is dedicated to his own type of dog....

I would hope, one day, to have a conversation with the man for i bet he would be a mine of information, tales and stories....

Let us not forget, that in many instances a "hunt" terrier "may" be different from a non-hunt terrier.....

Its all about the job needed to be performed by the dog ............and ...........standards....

Good hunting to all.....JD

i think it does young lads good to get a bit of shite to start off first , you wouldnt throw the keys to your son of a brand new car the day he passed his test would you, i hope not just give him a banger to wreck and its like that with dogs, fowl pigeons etc if they are very keen and are in it for the long term then its start at the bottom and learn and they will soon progress to better stuff and be able to spot shite later on and bullshitters. as for mass breeders then they just breed for the big hole that needs filling if you want to dip and try one then its up to them but if your really serious about being on a differant level you will soon learn where to go to get the right terriers but you will have to wait as they dont mass breed these. best are useually given and cant be bought.my old man never charged for nowt but we grew up proper poor and there,s a saying that sticks in my throat its eaten bread is soon forgoten and he,s a decent bloke doesnt put food in kids bellies so i dont knock any breeders trying to put bread on the table. if you want proper stock then you should know it from shite.

Our game is Horses for courses.........I understand M.1's problems with breeders but they have always exsisted , You really learn by your mistakes in this game & after shelling out a few quid & then having it bite you on the arse is part of the learning curve Im afraid on the other hand a yappy little bolting russell may be perfect for certain people....???.......Im certainly no disciple mate... :whistling: ........I just recognise that Ed has vast experience with the terriers & digging & although his ideals are nothing like mine I respect that what he does is his buisness , as simple as that really..........

My patt "Charlie" & A chapman bred russell who we dug to a few times last season.............2 dogs with work styles at totally opposite ends of the spectrum !!!!

Topper im amazed you dare comment on the wrongs/rights and the error of folks ways.

your a major part of whats wrong today.

you breed from a shotty little bitch barely 2/3 years old done nothing! because it was out of some bitch called "chance" blah blah.

then theres the sire  then not supprisingly you keep nothing back for yourself.

you should have culled the lot!

edited to add reading back again i suppose there is some value to come out of being ripped off, god knows ive spent enough money on shit and been sucked in..

but when i think about younguns my lad included whos just trying to get into it,id sooner keep them winning and help them out where possible far more productive i think.

I know Eddie and I have done for a few years now he wouldn't fit in with the stuff that goes on now and he knows it, he hasn't the same interest in his dogs now as all he wants to do is fish, fish and more fishing. It doesn't mean he has nothing to offer and he has plenty of intresting tales, he's a character and a mate. He'll probably never dig to a dog again by his own admission he has people cueing up to take him out with offers of " I'll do the digging " etc; etc; but he isn't intrested if he can't do the whole job properly he won't do it at all!

The breeding and showing is mostly done by his wife and she seems to succeed well in that side of things so fair play to her.

Recently Eddie said to me in light of the ban " I saw the best days of digging in my time " whatever your views on the bloke I think he's spot on with that comment and he probably has seen the best days there were no such things as prosecutions and antis were few and far between.

He's a good bloke and he's done enough in my book to live his days out how he pleases.........
