Not Finding ??

Recommended Posts

Trust the dog until it's proven otherwise, we were out the other day, came to a decent size earth with all the holes booted out and looked like it was full of them. Tried a young dog that's had a handful of digs, he wouldn't even travel the earth which we thought was odd, so tried my bitch ,who's only had one dig, and although she searched the earth she also said 'no-one at home', and with it looking so good we were cursing the 'b*****d useless' dogs as we left the earth, then about 30 yards from the earth we came across a one holer that has never been more than a rabbit hole and sure enough the dogs marked it, we loosed the young dog and ended up digging him with 2 in the pot, so just goes to show to trust the dogs, if we'd never spotted the one holer we'd have gone home thinking the dogs were telling fibs...

What more would you expect from a young dog? It most likely will not find everywhere and might just miss one or 2 on its way to developing into a worker or not.

The dog has done nothing wrong that your friend knows of and already it's card seems marked? After 4 digs, especially if they've been easy finds that dog will still be as green as grass.

Proof in the pudding there rabbit hunter, but I like a dog to search as well ~just incase~ even if nothing in, then handy at geting a rough idea of the depth of the earth and the range.
