walshie 2,804
Mrs w has it in her head to have a look at some houses in Pembrokeshire. We intend to just pop over for the weekend to get a feel for the area and possibly stay a night or two in Tenby. Anything good or bad to say about Tenby much appreciated. Bosun11 537
My niece has just gone to stay there till Thursday... Nice place Tenby, the furthest I ever went on holiday as a kid, I went once and loved it. I revisited the place about ten years ago, in a 'things I must do' type trip and immediately realised why I have such fond memory's of the place.

northern lad 2,292
Its a funny place Walshie...the locals who didn't care you were English were great, over the week got to know a few of them and had a good craic, the others though walk towards you smiling (as people do on holiday)about to say hello....Id say alright mate..nice morning etc etc and they would literally scowl and change direction even in the site lounge at night ,the kids were up on stage for a competition of some sort ..."where you from"......Cardiff big cheer same with Swansea etc etc one kid was booed to the extent she cried.....,because she was English

I'll be using my best Welsh accent....butty! Don't believe a word of it, Tenby is sound mate.. I lived there for around 20 out of my 35 years on this planet, if there's anything you want to know Walshie, just ask mate. I've spoken to you before about it, and with the position you and your other half are in at the minute I don't think you'll find a better place than Tenby IMHO.. walshie 2,804
Jeez...don't know who to believe now. The Englishman who has experienced this racism first hand or the Welshman who is probably trying to lure us there like something out of the Wicker Man.

NO lies there Malt, only saying what I experienced first hand, the woman who owned the caravan behind ours was a valley girl and she warned us ,apparently theres pubs in the valleys she couldn't go in as she couldn't speak welsh, having said all this I would happily live there....Walshie asked for opinions and I gave him mine...an honest one at that

It's probably more the holidaymakers in general the locals don't like, nothing to do with being English.. On the other bit about the lounge and people getting booed - I'd bet a large number of those people booing were holidaymakers themselves from up Swansea/Cardiff way.. Knowing those guys they were probably half pissed and the 'England vs Wales' rugby rivalry that is ingrained in the heart of every Welsh person came to the fore! I'd bet money that the booing wasn't being done out of genuine hatred.. I can see how you might feel in that environment if you don't know Welsh people though, we must seem like horrible b*****ds! I know a few English people who have moved here and they just slip into the way of things here and start taking it as its meant and give it back in equal measure.. You could be right Malt,I know the compare on the stage was pissed off and said cmon folks theyre kids on holiday, but it went down like a lead balloon with the crowd,as I said before the lads who would have a craic were sound, the lads on the door got us in a few places,"tell em so and so sent you"
