Sports For Kids

Recommended Posts

What sports do you get your kids into?

or do they just float towards what they like?

my lads will all try boxing or muay thai when they're older,if they don't like it they wont be forced to keep going but i think its good for all kids to try.

I'm going to get my youngest lad into gymnastics i think when he's older,he's tiny but very strong and loves climbing,so i think he'll go for that at a young age.

I hear rugby's good for kids because theirs a position for everyone, big, small, fast etc

My eldest girl never really did any sports apart from what was compulsory at school ... My middle girl loves hockey ... My youngest girl loves all sports running ... Swimming ... Athletics ... Hockey ... Netball etc ... My boy loves his rugby and boxing ...all of them at some time have asked to come to martial arts training with me but I am afraid that's my quiet time ......

as a kid i was made to go to judo, although im a first dan black belt (before i gave it up) i never really enjoyed it and took part to please my parents, but i could never force my kids into anything but will give them every oppurtunity to try anything and fully support them in whatever they decide they want to do  atb mart

I raced schoolboy moto cross.... forced into it and had money threw at me.... but all got too much at such a young age....

My lad can do whatever he wants.... hes 3 now and into his ferrets...dogs...catapults....

Suppose hes just following me....

But once hes old enough... he can take his pick.... ill support him... week in...week out like my dad did...

I will however.... try and lean him towards some sort of self defence.... martial arts.... mma... krav maga... muay thai...etc....

Think its good to have a basic understanding... of how to look after yourself....

One day he might need it....

And in todays culture....and not knowing what the future beholds.....

It could be vital...

All mine have had swimming lessons from the age of 3. And they are still doing them.

Cost me a fortune but I believe it's a life skill you can't afford not to have.

Out of school they have started interest in stuff like street dance and climbing.

I must commend the school and brownies/ guides and cubs. Mine get a good variation of interesting things to do.

All mine are outdoorsy ... been out walking with the dogs since they were all really small (and actually, I did push them across muddy fields in a pram when they couldn't walk far ). They walk for miles, climb trees etc.

Exposing them to anything they're interested in and letting them explore how far they want to take it the way to go. If they're committed to a certain number of lessons in something or a course or whatever, they have to finish it - not quit half way through. If, at the end, they don't fancy it that's fine but once committed I do make them follow through. The girls did gymnastics, starting complaining half way through the course but I made them finish what they started before they moved on to something else.

All three of them are in Ju Jitsu at the moment. My son likes basketball and cricket, one daughter does football and any sport you give her a chance to play, she loves it. The other daughter, not so much. She likes sewing tho  They've only just started learning to swim - in rivers this summer, but they've come on leaps and bounds that way.

All 4 of mine played rugby league, even the daughter, she played for the england womens team in her late teens. She only weighs 7 stone wet through but had a heart like a lion.

They all did hunting ,shooting and fishing
