rob190364 2,594
What are peoples experiences of housing two in tact hobs that are not litter mates? I've got two jills and a hob, the hob has been on his own all summer due to them all being in season. I intended on getting them neutered but both jills are showing real promise and I have quite high hopes for the hob aswell so I don't want to get any of them neutered. So for a bit of company over the summer months I'm thinking of getting another hob to live with my hob. I once had two hobs and they were a pain in the ass for fighting, I've deliberately avoided having two hobs ever since. Do they generally get on fine and my experience was just a one off? I must admit when I had them two it was always the same one starting the fights, so maybe he was just a scrapper? Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
One of mines just came out of season and the other is on its way, about 3 weeks since i left both hobs in 2 rabbit runs side by side, anyway one escaped into the other and a big fight broke out but i decided to leave them to sort themselves out and they are right as rain now, looks promising for keeping them both together this season, and there not litter mates Quote Link to post
Runningdog86 7
I had 3 hobs living together in a large ferret court. All of em still had there tackle intact. Not a problem in the winter, come summer it was like fight club. Used to seperate them and they would look all depressed. Put them back together and it was round 2. No win situation. Now have 2 Jill's and a vasectomised hob. Peace in camp 2 Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
I've kept them together with no problems, though you can and do get the odd spat when the jills are in season. Just keep an eye on them rob87163494525542937. 1 Quote Link to post
onthehunt 40
My experience is unless their littermates or have grown up together, then hobs should be separated when in season as their hormones take over. As a rule, always have a spare hutch ready. 2 Quote Link to post
Runningdog86 7
Mine were 2 brothers and the dad. I took em of a fella who had them in a little cage and they was living in there own shit. He probably jus left them to fight it out. Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
I had 2 hobs together for years when I was a kid. No problems at all. Then I tried it last year and there was hell up. Both were litter mates. Quote Link to post

AirgunGuy 362
I've just put my 1 yr old hob and 3 month old hob in together today and they're chasing each other all over the place and having a right old carry on. The older hob was on his own and looked miserable. The young hob was in with his mother but started trying to ride so had to separate them. They were in a small cage for a short time while I cleaned the hutch and seemed ok though there did seem to be a bit domineering going on. Anyway they're in the hutch now so time will tell ;-) 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,586
Ive got my three hobs separated if they weren't scrapping they where trying to bum each other it was a no win situation 1 Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
Mine are trying a bit of that also as the young hob seems to have discovered that he's got balls. They seem more full of carry on than anything else. I threw a raw rabbit carcass in to keep them occupied til they hopefully get used to each other. I'll keep a close eye on them for a while. As long as they don't try to kill each other ;-) Edited August 12, 2013 by AirgunGuy Quote Link to post

He's basically a rapist and a murderer 1 Quote Link to post
