Cheers ss collars have there place, I have had quite a few and still do have one left, his leads are good I wouldnt use anything else tbh, but I don't think you can beat a traditional collar for hunti

Lol yea mate, but is it really necessary? 6,7,8, 10 years from a collar is fine by me

Leather rots ffs leathers been used for hundreds of years why do mindle and lowas make boots out of leather some of the best boots you can buy! I had a collar on my old dog for 13 yrs never treated it or looked after it and it out lasted him. A good quality collar will out last your dog, I carnt see why some one would want a collar to lat forever there ony cheap I'd rather a nice new collar on a new dog myself not a tatty smelly old thing your last dog wore for 10 plus years! IMO.

I got mates also have had terrier couples for 20 plus years so that's rubbish. Leather is a lot more durable than your making it sound anyone would think your talking about collars made of cardboard lol

wood was also made to make boats for thousands of years but you don't see much wooden boats being made these days ....I have worn mendle boots for about 10 years and I get only 1 season out of them so believe it or not leather does rot wear and crack ....how do you know my dog wore a collar for 10 years ..the dog in question is only 7 and after 2 seasons the leather loop holding the D ring that you put the slip through gave ...this will never happen with ss collars ...you and BAW can believe what you want .....Maybe your mates have had leather couples for 20 years but then again maybe they sit in a bag or hang in a shed most of the year

 ok, how long does a leather lead or collar normally last you? You relatively new into field sports or did you use leather in days gone by? I'm not dissing SS gear, the guy sells quality stuff but I'd never have any of it instead of leather but that's just me.

I don't work my dogs with leather any more ...I m certainly not a newbie to field sports I was born into this way of life now im forty although all that know me will agree I don't look It.......... all I am say ing is there is a chance leather will wear out and give but there is no chance of that happening with SS gear made with the modern material s just like most golf drivers are not made out of wood any more its called progress

SS does a webbing slip about 5 foot long with a loop at each end for a couple of quid ...I usually order about 20 at the start of the season as I keep loosing them and give some away to lads ...I have used the black dog ones that is a leather loop with a length of leather cord

A strong dog will eventually snap a leather collar. Or stretch it so that it is in effect useless. Leather gets wet...cracks and stretches. I should know because it has happened to me a fair few times at the crucial moment. Now maybe looked after and bee's waxed regular then things might be different..But in all fairness i dont buy a leather collar so i can sit and polish/wax it. I buy an SS collar so i can abuse it day after day without having to faff about drying it/waxing it/ polishing it safe in the knowledge that it will never snap or stretch. The best leather i ever used was off Glyn Jones btw but even that eventually faltered after a few wet muddy seasons. atb stabba

Blackdog trading collars are great for the price...

Not looked at collars for a while..... as mine wear the nylon house collars in the house.....

I bought a pair of ss collars a while back for the whippet and the lurcher.....

Definitly looks good on the wee 19.5" whippet....

Aarons gear is top class..... no doubting that.....

But i do like leather collars too......

Especially on the smaller....whippet types.....

Ive got both and chop and change as i wish

Hide and collars do some good collars as do 'harris and watson'....
