Kit With Pot Belly

I bought a kit a couple of days ago and I've noticed she has a pot belly when you pick her up.

Does anybody know what it could be?

She seems normal every other way I might give her a few days and see if it changes. She was fed on cat food the lad said

Plenty of idiocy out there amongst ferret keepers feeding cat food is common still. probs pure laziness if you ask me, if no meat is available theres no excuse not to be stocked up on dry ferret complete.

Yeah thats what it is laziness and its cheap. I know an old fella that feeds his on cat food, they work well etc but hes old school and won't listen too anything you say.

I don't know what causes it but i know it's not a food issue..as i have lost two young over the year's and one adult through it and they have alway's been fed meat..

the kit is eating alpha ferret food and some chicken at the moment. too many flies if I put rabbit in at the mo

I have had that before now and when I have cut the ferret open to see what it was they were full of tumours ... They grow very aggressively in a ferret .... Oh and by the way there is worse things to feed a ferret than cat food ...........

There are worse things to feed a dog that carrot cake. . . . . but i doubt it'd be great for it

 

You are bang on about the tumors though, and they do seem to grow real quick in ferrets.

 

I also wonder if, with it being a kit, it could be a blockage of some kind? Just grasping at straws.

I have seen underdeveloped kits with pot belly scrawny bodies and a big pot belly, a couple of weeks on good stuff looked right as rain , in an adult yes as said worrying .

I was just taking the piss mate. When you said 'cat food' rather than complete cat food in your post, I was thinking of the shitty wet stuff you can get, the cheap crap.
