charlie caller 3,654
Weatherby vanguard, .243 which is the same as a Howa 15oo, brilliant rifle, solid tight tolerance Jap engineering, spit accurate and not ammo fussy, and I would say the best value rifle on the market today. 1 Quote Link to post
welshdragon 6
I have the XBOLT in 243 and 223 never missed a beat with either, i also have the Howa 1500 with the Thumb hole stock in 308 and again no complaints, i sold the Steyr 22.250 after 11 months after buying it from new just could'nt hit jack shit with it , i think to much flex in the stock so i was told. Hi THE STALKER how do you find the stock on the Browning xbolt ive had they ok today to put my Remington 223 in and buy a new 243 . atb W.D Quote Link to post

andyf 144
Hi I've had an A Bolt medallion Browning .270 for 15 years from new (the X-bolt is just the 'new' version), excellent rifle, one of the best I've owned.. As for thumbhole feels nice in hand, but a 'faff' to unscramble your hand to rack the bolt, for it to work (assuming your right handed) you'd need a right hand stock and a left hand bolt. hutchey 147
Cheers Dan, that list is what I'm looking at IF I get the nod from my nice constabulary. Quote Link to post
sussex 5,802
Hutchey given modern machining methods I don't think there is a lick between them , they are all good serviceable rifles that will give you a lifetimes use looked after properly .I shot my pals x bolt the other day fabulous, had a rem 700 only got rid of it because I didn't need a 270,got a tikka t3 (you know that works) , I think its a case of sorting out a good deal on a rifle .Ps also tried the howa in 308 what a good rifle for the money that is ...! 2 Quote Link to post

If it where my money I would go for the howa thumbhole a lad that lamps regular with me has one and I realy like it and it isn't too short in the stock not that thats a problem for most folks lol his is stainless with a grey laminate not dissimilar to my 25. 1 Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
I have a t3 stainless varmint mate and its a very good very accurate rifle only downfall is its heavy but that's to be expected when buying a varmint rifle 1 Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
Wow, so many good comments about most on the list. Think i need to wander into my local shop and see how they feel, particularly the thumbhole Howa as that really caught my eye I guess another consideration is weight as if i do get some stalking land then it would be nice not to have to carry something too heavy for long periods. Same for foxing with a lamp on it etc. Quote Link to post

The Seeker 3,048
I have a t3 stainless varmint mate and its a very good very accurate rifle only downfall is its heavy but that's to be expected when buying a varmint rifle Exact view as this mine is heavy but unless your 8 stone wet through its not going to be a major issue, it's incredibly accurate. I also have a Browning A bolt in .223 which is quality but the T3 is better 1 Quote Link to post
