Objection System At Shanes Castle Fair

Recommended Posts

It is unfortunate that after quite a few terrier, whippet and lurcher events we get allegations of cheating, unfair judging, poor line judging decision, breeding of dogs etc.

To make sure the terrier, lurcher and whippet events at the Game Fair at Shanes Castle are run as fairly as possible- as I indicated in an earlier post - anyone can make an objection on the basis of making it a formal written objection and lodging £40 with me or at HQ.

The objection will be investigated by a committee that I will put together with a member of the organising club, myself and an independent person. If the objection is judged to be mistaken the person lodging the deposit will forfeit that deposit - going to a charity of my choice. If it is deemed to be a totally SPURIOUS or FRIVOLOUS COMPLAINT then action may also be taken against the person making the complaint. If it is proven to be a justifiable objection the £40 will be returned and action taken against the person accused. If it is deemed to be a deliberate form of cheating i.e running an oversized dog, running in the KC whippet race with 'dodgy' registrations etc - this could involve banning from our events. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR DOG GET IT MEASURED.

I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN OUR ORGANISING CLUB; OUR JUDGES and OUR LINE JUDGES. NO ONE SHOULD COME TO THE EVENTS AT SHANES CASTLE WITH ANY IDEA OTHER THAN THEY WILL BE TREATED FAIRLY.

Albert as you're aware many of the people who race in the elite category take their racing very seriously. There needs to be some sort of transparency as to how the dogs are measured. I don't know how the dogs have been measured at all the shows thus far but could I make the following suggestions:-

1 - All the dogs to be measured openly and publicly.

2 - The dogs to be measured on a level surface by three competent people including the handler present and a 2 to 1 majority on the borderline cases.

3 - Using a 21" or 23" bridge for a quick gauge and if it is borderline then use a measuring set up similar to what Tango uses to get the exact height of a dog. When using the bridge the person measuring shouldn't have to apply any pressure on the bridge for it to touch the ground.

4 - Competitors should have the opportunity to question the height of any dog and the dog in question should be measured again openly and publicly.

try this for an idea.. why doesnt everyone just be honest,,,,and enjoy the craic,,, maybe prize money could be giving wrong incentive,,, change it to a gift to charity of the winners choice,,,, ?? all this competitiveness could be leaving bad atmosphere as things do sometimes get a bit heated,,, just a thought,,,:angel::angel::angel:

Dazzam,

The NILRC have measured most if not all of the elite dogs and to date there have only been a very few objections to this. I couldn't disagree with your suggested system of measuring and this is something I am sure the NILRC will take on board. Obviously with an event of the size of Shanes we cannot measure each and every dog running. It is up to anyone who considers their dog is borderline to have it measured before racing or risk disqualification. I do disagree with your point 4 because we could have challenge after challenge with the obvious delay and bad feeling this would engender. As i see it the facts are : 1. there are a few marginal dogs - whose owners opt for the smaller easier category. If they don't clarify this they risk being disqualified. 2. There are certain people who appear to wish to attack the NIRLC - I had an allegation a few weeks ago by a person who claimed they would be disadavantaged at Shanes because of some spat they had with a member of the club. I am afraid I have the greatest sympathy with anyone who feels disavantaged AFTER somethinghappens but LITTLE sympathy with someone who goes looking for DISADVANTAGE before the event and makes allegations about what is likely to happen!

I have put in place a system of objection similar to what we have for other events i.e that it is investigated after somthing happens and someone makes a formal complaint. There will be penalties for both someone judged to have deliberately cheated ( from disqualification to banning) and for someone who on a 2:1 vote of the investigative panel we consider has made a malicious complaint ( from loss of deposit to banning).

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
