As a pet I would go for a border they are the most laid back generally of the terriers ......

Having said that...I've twice had terriers bite kids...and both were Borders...

No rhyme or reason...and both were as well socialised as you'd get... :hmm:

Try and find a pet bred litter which have been sensibly reared and insist on seeing both parents: temperament comes first as a pet. Steer clear of working bred ones as many, not all, have too high a drive to be happy just as a pet. A good working bred one will not be happy with life in a back garden or on a lead, and denying it the opportunity to work could give you all sorts of behavioural issues: frustrated workers are bombs waiting to go off. And before someone comes on here saying that they have perfectly laid back worker as a pet, yes, it can happen, but it makes sense to avoid dogs with a great desire to hunt all the time.

both my terriers are 110% with kids in fact thay like kids in a room full off people thay will sit down next to kids because thay no were thay will get fuss. thay work well for me and do wat i expect from them. i think there workers my mrs thinks there pets. if its wat you want and you put the work in you can have the best of both worlds.

Agreed but I trust working terriers less than any other type with kids even if completely socialised. They just have a different mentality
