A Bit Of Advice Wanted

I'm hoping to finally wrap up work in the new year and will be getting a new pup then as I can give it more attention, but the wife really wants a bitch not another dog.

I've no problem in principle with that but have been told it will need to have it's first season before spaying and can imagine the chaos that will bring with my 5 year old unneutered dog.

So, does a bitch have to have a first season or can she be spayed before then? Both will live in so kennelling is not an option.

No, they don't need to have a season first - they can technically be speyed from 12 weeks onwards, although waiting til 6 months is more normal.

I know of around 5 dog's that have been spayed..some before there first season and some after..and to be honest it made no difference what so ever weather you wait for the first season or not..

Cheers for that, I was told they needed a first season to allow hormones through their bodies. It sounded a bit iffy but I wanted to make sure.

have another male pup mate, the most easy way aint it, when you bring him home your mrs will soon take to him. Ive kept dogs+ bitches over the years and was ok, but being honest its eaiser with same sex dogs, make it eaiser on your self

Make it real easy and way cheaper. Just go get your dog cut and or do it yourself. If ya want to get your gyp spayed later on then you can do that to. More folks should have their dogs fixed to be honest. It dont hurt a damn thing.

Its damn cheap here cuz Id just do it myself and be done with it. I've only kept two dogs that were nutted though cuz they were good dogs. Normally Id never keep a dog that was though cuz usually if a dog is on my yard he is my stud dog or else he wouldnt be there 99% of the time.

Few Issues with growth plate closer causing growth abnormalities and cruciate ligament problems which will have more impact on working dogs with early spaying see link for more info.

I would wait until a bitch is physically mature before speying - about 18 months mine have been. I believe they need their hormones to grow strong bones and muscles first.

Mixed veiw's from different experience's will alway's make these decision's confusing.. personaly i would wait till after the first season but i have seen sevaral dog's done before there first season which all turned out to be bang on..

I have three bitches and Ive waited till after the 2nd or third season to have them spayed, Two are done and one has just finished her first season this week and I have no plans to get her done yet but mine arent workers
