mushroom 14,020
Yesterday I was in the mountains with Trev he was having a good old mooch about scenting here and there very aware of every sound Basically acting how you would expect a hunting breed to act. Daft cnut decided to piss a snake off Luckily I was watching him and when I saw him focused on a particular bush I moved towards him thinking it could be a rabbit or mountain hare no the fuuckin bush starts hissing like a cobra with Trevs ears pricked up, eyes focused on target it was a matter of time before he tried his luck I dived for him mannaged to grab his collar just as he was about to stike (yes I know full well the snake would of hit first). This was a very beautiful snake maybe 1.5 meters long, brilliant green and about as fat as redbull can maybe a little fatter unfortunately it did one before the mrs could take a photo but boy did this thing have attitude Anyway I researched what this snake could be and from google and talking with my friends here it seems this snake was a "Montpellier snake" not amazingly venemous but aparently a very painful bite which "rarely" can kill dogs/cats/children etc. Point is this; if any of you travel with your dogs be aware of local fauna and always keep a sharp eye when out and about

Saw my first grass snake for a long time a few weeks back on the road just up from where I've lived.. Grand total of 2 I've seen now in the 35 years I've lived in the countryside! sussex 5,803
I was over my brothers place in spain last year and his little terrier grabbed a toad , the dog was dead 15 min later ... turned out to be a cane toad,by all accounts big dogs can get over it but his little terrier died on the way to the vets . Apparently there quite common over there where he lives in javea. . Needless to say they have a daily walkround on the lookout for them .

The cliff path just down the road is known for adders, might be able to get out and take a few pictures once my legs are better..

Very common here I've been warned several times to be on my guard. In UK my dogs always backed away from snakes, the terriers, staffy but Trev looked friggin intent on getting it I always said he was a dumb shiit  Reason for this thread was just to make people aware when traveling. I've had a couple of PM's recently from people interested in hunting here just thought I'd give a heads up in case they decide to travel with their dogs
baw 4,360
Lived in a rural county all my life in the U.K. that is and yet to see a snake. here you go one from the other week You've took that rule of thirds to the extreme paulus, your meant to fit the whole snake in I've seen loads of grass snakes, usually when I'm looking under boulders for worms to fish lol. Can mind seeing a nest of the wee b*****ds moving along the dead fern at the top of a drainage ditch next to the road. Must have been a dozen, could only get fleeting glances and the odd one falling. I ain't scared of snakes but that sent a shiver down my spine. Got one there thinking back lol. Something about 1 or 2 of any species being ok but a lot of something gives you the heebyjeebies lol. Seen a few adders mostly early in the morning. There is a place that's good for a walk with the dogs has a beware of adders sign on the path, yet to see one there
Astral 253
Haha sounds like a very healthy grass snake. First time I saw one was when I was a kid, dad was taking me for a bike ride (He has a phobia of snakes) We were happily whizzing along dad in front leading the way, then it popped out a bush and it was like dad hit a brick wall, jumped backwards off the bike threw it in a bush yelling and ran BEHIND me!!! Pretty sure thats where I developed my love for reptiles. They can do that to full grown men!
