Oil Drum Barbecue

Right, cut the oil drum in half and I'm still here. Luckily it only held depleted uranium and not petrol. :laugh: Hinges fixed, inside wire brushed out and now I've got a little fire going in it to burn off any nasties.

Tomorrow I'm going to fix a bit of angle iron inside for the charcoal and another bit for the grill.

How many air holes if any should I drill and how big?

Set of legs and a lick of paint and Bob's your Uncle. :thumbs:

Have you seen the price of s/s grills? I'm not paying that kind of money, so i'm going to get some mesh to do the job. Does anyone know what material this should be made of so as not to taint the food? And don't say asbestos covered lead. :hmm:

The bloody summer will be over by the time you finish it :D ..........can't you find a couple of old cookers and use the shelves from the oven?

walshie i certainly wouldnt paint it unless it was some sort of paint that can with stand alot of heat

I see hinges mentioned, are you putting on a hinged lid to keep weather out, or for using when your cooking?

 

I think im gonna do one but out of an old gas bottle.
