jigsaw 11,902 Posted February 1, 2013 Report Share Posted February 1, 2013 had a small job to do today and finished it at 11 a.m. got the urge the day before for a bit of a trek.So after work loaded up the gun and headed off to the hills.It was a wild and windy day and keeping your balance on the ridges after the sudden and unexpected gusts of winds was a challenge to say the least.After about 2 hrs on the rocks and crags and not a sign of a goat I started to admit defeat,so At 3.35 I thought it best to head down as the daylight was not the best and I made my way over the peaks with trepidation,after another hour I was back on flat fields and just a short way from the farm and van.I entered the last field a bit deflated when suddenly a movement caught my attention.Over in amongst a bit of scrub was a billy,eating away to his hearts content blissfully unaware his day of reckoning was just about to come.My intention was to shoot a nice table goat but hey......BEGGARS CANT BE CHOOSERS,LOL.....RIGHT I worked my way along the ditch to the last few yards needed and raised the gun,pulled the trigger and down he went,a good head shot.my spirits lifted and happy I wasnt going home empty handed.I reached my goat and started to inspect him....and to my horrors the bugger had definite hair loss all along his spine he had a honk off of him that would knock a horse,jesus h christ he sure was putrid,but being a believer of using everything you kill I began to drag the dirty fecker down the field and to the van.I had the heeebeeegeeebees just pulling the beast,and once reached the van started to gut and clean him out.The filthy barsteward made my skin crawl.Now ive killed ,culled and cleaned a hell of a lot of animals in my time without a blink or a thought but this fellow defo made me shiver a bit.When cleaned out he hadnt a decent bit of meat on him,the only good bits are his back legs I reckon.So all the horrible stuff done,into the van he was loaded and away home.I sit here now knowing the bugger has to be carted around the back of the house and I wait till later so none of the neighbours get a look at this stinking creature or im out of the neighbourhood double quick Anyway a result,......not the result I would have preferred but a result none the less,now which dog/dogs are more expendable so I can experiment with their food and see if they collapse after eating the hideous beast, ONLY JOKING GUYS,.I must say in all the years Im shooting the goats its the 1st time ever Ive come across a lone goat,ive had small pocket of 4' and 5's but never a lonesome goat.It should have rang alarm bells i suppose............it will the next time,lol 4 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

jigsaw 11,902 Posted February 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted February 2, 2013 moonlighter,hes not too old i reckon,hes not that big and other than being bald he had clean hoofs so i guesstimate he was not too old,2 yrs possibly a little more...moonlighter theyre as wild as any deer,very flightey and when you meet the big boys they can be nasty cranky feckers.ive been forced to retreat and even jump into the abiss to avoid a set of horns a few times...the problem now is the van will fukin honk like mad in the morning.Im out with the terriers and they'll rock the bloody van with the smell of the shitty fecker. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

jigsaw 11,902 Posted February 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted February 2, 2013 duggy,there used to be,lol.theres plenty left about the hill.Im not shooting any more now till july/august.Theyve started kiding now and I'll leave them in peace or just take out the odd billy,when I started there was a herd of over 100+ now theres a few bunches of 20's to 30's.the farmers ply me with firewood and putteen/illegal hooch they are happy im picking off a few all the time.im after another herd,havent located them yet but im told their about in a decent sized forestry and number anything up to 60 individuals.
