RossM 8,149
Long story short as im on the mobile doing this, Checked dog for injuries after a night out, all looked fine. Last night home from work and foot swollen and limping slightly. Found cut, removed dirty scab and cleaned with warn salty water and antiseptic. Gave antibiotics last night and applied dressing, not tight could get small finger down.woke this morning swelling slightly worse but walking on it, cleaned out again and another dose of antibiotics. If its no better will take to vet but would appreciate any advise on what else I csn do to help or prevent a vet trip. Wound after cleaning this morning. Not too big but deepish. RossM 8,149
Wonder how she managed to do that? f**k knows only thing I can think of her doing was catching that fence at the horsey fields, and I never saw it when I checked her over then, or end of night. Chid 6,830
either blue spray it or put sudacrem/savlon on it and leave it ... tbh i wouldnt of gave anti biotics for that even if it was a bit swollen a good clean and some blue spray would of done fine imo

skycat 6,174
A small amount of swelling is totally normal with any wound. Stop messing about with it. Let the dog lick it when ever it wants to. Do not bandage. IMO a wound that small shouldn't warrant antibiotics, which should always be given as a complete course, not just a couple of tablets here and there, which will only make bacteria more resistant to them, unless you are giving a long acting penicillin injection, in which case one should do it, with possibly a second 2 days later. If this is actually a deeper puncture wound than it appears from the photo it is possible that there may be infection in the joint, in which case a proper course of antibiotics may be needed. Also, if the wound is a result of a knock you may also have bruising which could account for the swelling. It is always dangerous to give advice over the net as people can't see exactly what the injury is. If there is still hot swelling around the area in a couple of days then see a vet.

Rake aboot 4,936
Leave it open, spray it with purple spray horsey type wound cleaner. Keep an eye on the swelling, if it doesn`t go down, vets,
LaraCroft 863
Have you got anything other than amox ? IMHO it looks infected, hence the swelling, and the delay from the original wound. Amox on it's own won't cover many of the bugs that are the most likely culprits for infection ( it's better for chest infections and the like)

So either the dog has broken some toes, or there could be another wound in the foot somewhere, or its just bruised badly: without seeing the dog in the flesh impossible to tell: get it to a vet. mushroom 14,207
With wounds like that I always clean well with Hibiscrub and sprinkle with Cephalaxin powder (broad spec antibiotic, Amox is poo) and cover repeating for two to three days then leave it uncovered and well alone. That just looks sore not infected keep ya eye on it and if in doubt or concerned as Skycat said there's no substitute on here for a good vet having a look
