Buying Dogs On Trail

Recommended Posts

after reading a recent thread it got me thinking about the pitfalls of buying a dog on trail.

how would it work between to complete strangers that live hours apart?

have many people bought dogs on trail?

what are every ones opinions ?

Seen parents of pups I've bought but wouldn't say it was a trial. If I was parting with good cash I'd want to see it do what it says on the tin. You wouldn't buy a car without trying it so why not a dog?

It's got really common with horse's.....for me if I'm paying decent money for the dog I'd want to go out with the owner and see the dog run and do as claimed....wouldn't trust anyone to take a dog and trial it.....

what strikes me is how much of a leap of faith it would be for the buyer or seller.

"the dogs no good can i have my money back"............................................. "i've spent the money i'll get it for you in a couple of weeks"

Ahhh I see what your asking now, no wouldn't do that. If I was selling a dog and someone wanted a trial. He would come out with me with the dog on my land. Once money is exchanged that's it unless its howling his place down etc.

Why would anyone be selling an adult dog that was any good midway through the season ,

exactly but one mans good is anothers great. if that makes any sense

i would never even consider it. the only way to find the right dog is though hard work, time and a lot of love.

there are many out there looking for a quick fix with no effort.

Theres loads of reasons, divorce, prison, crippled in a car crash etc

the dogs too slow. it jibbed, won't retrieve, chew the dog run, howls the place down, pisses on your best shoes.

surely if a dog was that good a friend would take it on. not many of us hunt alone all the time
