Am I right in believing that good old Jezza (Jerremy Clarkson) chinned that arsehole Piers Morgan?   Edited; just checked, he punched him at the british press awards and was restrained by security!

Ive. Emailed alex jones begging him to stop his petion as we dont. Want the wanker back here i await his reply

I think your wrong, there would be less arseholes about if they thought they might get shot for causing shit in town at the weekend.

Piers was well and truly ripped a new arsehole there....

Dont think so, the fella doin the shouting had a poorly thought out point of view, didnt know the facts, hence the reason for shouting.

Reminds me of when we were facing the hunting ban and no one could muster a well thought out and reasoned defence.

Is that what you saw...i never? He did have the facts..and the overall crime was down so why should the general public be hard done by because of criminals. I agree he was an arsehole but he was a typical loudmouthed Yank.

From what i saw he wasnt well versed in the "facts" and kept ranting about other things instead of answering direct questions.

That being said, i totally agree with you, that we should be allowed to have firearms if we wish too. Obviously mentally unstable people shouldnt be allowed. But our gun laws are beyond crazy. Pistols banned because the police didnt carry out the proper checks. A knee jerk ban that should never have taken place.

Up until recently i have had firearms and shotguns most of my life and have never even come close to shooting anyone, That goes for the vast majority of responsible gun owners. This also applies to the states. I read somewhere that for every 100 people in the states, there are 90 guns. Thats a shit load of guns, the percentage of murders compared to the number of guns is very low.

Brazil

Main article: Gun politics in Brazil

All firearms in Brazil are required to be registered with the state. The minimum age for ownership is 25[4] and it is generally illegal to carry a gun outside a residence.[5] The total number of firearms in Brazil is thought to be between 14 million and 17 million[6][5] with 9 million of those being unregistered.[4] Some 39,000 people died in 2003 due to gun-related injuries nationwide.[5] In 2004, the number was 36,000.[4] Although Brazil has 100 million fewer citizens than the United States, and more restrictive gun laws, there are 25 percent more gun deaths;[7] other sources indicate that homicide rates due to guns are approximately four times higher than the rate in the United States.[8] Brazil has the second largest arms industry in the Western Hemisphere.[8] Approximately 80 percent of the weapons manufactured in Brazil are exported, mostly to neighboring countries; many of these weapons are then smuggled back into Brazil.[8] Some firearms in Brazil come from police and military arsenals, having either been "stolen or sold by corrupt soldiers and officers."[8]

In 2005, a referendum was held in Brazil on the sale of firearms and ammunition to attempt to lower the number of deaths due to guns. Material focused on gun rights in opposition to the gun ban was translated from information from the National Rifle Association, much of which focused on US Constitutional discussions focused around the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.[7] Although the Brazilian Government, the Catholic Church, and the United Nations, among others, fought for the gun ban, the referendum failed at the polls, with 64% of the voters voting no.[4]

It's dangerous to see a correlation between two things and assume one as a cause and the other as the effect.

Although I'm in favour of derestricting legal firearm ownership, these countries that seem to show a correlation between gun laws a crime rate, is the crime rate an effect of their gun laws or are their gun laws an effect of the crime rate?

im fairly sure if every home had a gun and was backed by law when used for protection of that home then burglary rates would fall, but the gun wounding/ death rate would climb, good or bad thing :hmm: well that would depend if you were a burglar or not

I agree paulus, personally I believe that any responsible citizen should be able to own a shotgun for home defense. But these are just opinions, not hard scientific facts. I'm just saying that drawing conclusions from the stats can be flawed if not looked at in depth and with a certain amount of intelligence (not calling anybody stupid either).

The point Alex makes is very true though. While in the US violent crime is plummeting it is very much on the increase in the UK.

Sure you're not likely to get shot over here but you are much more likely to get beaten to death, mugged, robbed or stabbed in the UK

why do you think all guns held legally by the public are held under license, :hmm: so they know where to fetch them from if they ever need to, civil unrest ect :D
