Thumb holes.

I like TH stocks the only problem I had with one when fitted to a HW springer it was a bit of a pain to remove my hand from the TH stock to disengage the safety button. then to put my hand back in the stock. as for greater accuracy NO!. the main thing is the stance and steadyness of aim!

Comfort at the shoulder and on aim is what makes or breaks a riflestock's function in shooting accuracy. The most accurate barrel in the world will not mean much if its action is bolted to a stock that you cannot hold and shoulder-align your eye to the sight properly.

I cannot speak for PCP rifles but, after almost the whole of my 55 years shooting traditional spring rifles with conventional stocks, I now have a Thumbhole 97KT that is very accurate and easy to shoot. Though I'm adapting and slightly reshaping an HW77 stock (thank you Elliott!) as an experiment to see if that can lighten the weight and make things like balance and poise and recoil-management in the hold, even better with it as a competition rifle. This is a special job in progress, geared specifically towards HFT. It does not mean I will not be using my KT stock. This is a very well designed and thought-out production riflestock.

I have also shot the HW97KTs that Si and Davy have and had no problems hitting whatever I aimed them at. My partner Helen actually hit a 2p coin at 30 yards twice in succession with Davy's .22 97KT Thumbhole and he filmed her doing it. She had never so much as shot a pea shooter before that day a couple of weeks ago. I asked her about the experience and she loved it. To the extent where she wants to progress with a spring rifle and an HW95 and a 97KT is what she wants to own and shoot.

Si's tuned rifle is very sweet and fast to aquire a target in coming onto aim. I'm certain he will make great things yet to happen in HFT for himself with this rifle of his. Because it is a genuine beauty in every way.

Nothing wrong at all with Thumbhole stocks. My verdict on these so far is, if you are prepared to adapt your hold techniques, they can be every bit as accurate to shoot with as conventional stocks.

But humans being what we are, Skott has a good point about the Marmite analogy; You'll either love them or loathe them. Not everyone will get on with them;- while others will swear they are the greatest aid to their shooting of all!
