Carraghs Gem 1,699
Ok... Hypothetical scenario.. Speeding fine/court summons arrives at address where you previously lived and where your vehicle is registered, it arrives by registered post but no one signs for it so it is returned to sender What happens next? Does the fine... Go away or do garda (police) Do anything if they pull you over in the future? We do not at this point know the contents of the letter just that a speeding van MAY have caught the vehicle slightly over the speed limit
tegater 789
I doubt the fine will go away, and I would be guessing when I say that a note would be placed on pnc to obtain details of driver.

pip1968 2,490
it wont go away and your probably looking at a 5 stretch not trying to worry you though
marshman 7,758
The fine will increase the longer you leave it. As well if you get a pull for something else it'll be on record regardless .
PeakOil 352
I am not 100% on the system in Ireland. Here the Registered Keeper would be prosecuted for S172 failure to furnish for not responding to the NIP within 28 days, a fine of upto £1000 and 6 penalty points. The Registered keeper would probably be found guilty in their absence at Mags court of speeding and be hit with 3 - 6 more points and a fine inc costs in the region of £ - 450 depending on the speed the vehicle was 'caught' doing on top of the S172 fine and points. You fail to pay the fines and surrender your licence for the points / ban and a warrant goes out for your arrest, Rozzers start knocking on doors of places you might be. It is very unlikely to just go away. If the NIP was sent first class it is deemed in the eyes of the law to have been served. IE you have received and read it, then chosen to ignore it. The NIP should be sent within 14 days of the 'offence' over here to be valid, unless circumstances (new car, move house, etc) prevent the rozzers sending it out on time. Also over here not updating your driving licence address when you move is an offence if caught a fine of upto £1000 can be dished out. Mates sister got a miserable b*****d Mag who hit her with the full fine of £1000 a few years ago for this 'offence' Edited October 5, 2012 by PeakOil
stealthy1 3,964
Your car reg will be put on a register/computer, and when you pass a parked Police Trafic Car they will pull you, over here its 3 points on your licence and a fine, and eveytime you miss an appearance in court your fine and court costs go up, to a point where they come and aresst you

If you've ever been pulled by the cops, ever wonder why they don't get out immediately? They're checking you out on their system for previous First question they'll ask then will be something like "Have you ever got points/fined before?". That's to find out if you'll lie to them or not, they already know. If it were me, I would deal with it now and get it over with.
