On behalf of the I.W.T.F. may I give a big thank you to the organisers of The Irish Game & Country Fair held at Birr yesterday.

Once again it was a great day with several more members joining.

For the IWTF to be able to be on such a big stage in it's first year is little short of remarkable and goes a long way in showing who does indeed support us and our terriers.

Have you any other suggestions for a young club (only a few short weeks) to potentially meet 30,000 people and get their name and cause known.

If you do please let me know.

Credit should be given where credit is due and allowing us to attend the two gamefairs at Shanes Castle and Birr Castle is only a part of the support given to us by the organisers.

People in high places have recently commented on how much the IWTF has achieved in a short space of time and this is only possible because of the hard work and support that's been given by all those involved.

JH,

I am disappointed by your post - anyone that knows me knows that while I can be a difficult, argumentative, opinionated, arrogant and even objectionable person - the last thing I am when it comes to country sports is money grabbing. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has put as much into countrysports as we have over the last 34 years. I would challenge you to find a single person or organisation over that 34 years that we have refused sponsorship over that complete period.

However I am even more angry at your comments about Neil . I can assure you he is very much his own man and we have had quite testy arguments on HL up until about six months ago when he objected to something written on our web site and I invited him to do something better. He stepped up to the mark and produced an excellent article for the magazine which were pleased to publish. I never hold anything against a man ( or woman) who is prepared to speak their mind and fight their corner and in spite of some quite heated exchanges I realised that Neil and I were both passionate about country sports and could agree to disagree. What we do agree on is the need for terrier ( and lurcher) enthusiasts to have a credible organisation to represent their interests and to work positiviely with other countrysports organisations. When the IWTF was formed as a properly constituted organisation I was delighted to facilitate them in any way I could.

I should say Neil and I have only met once ,very briefly to simply say hello at Birr but I hope to meet with him to see how we can help the IWTF further. We are prepared to facilitate the IWTF at our fairs and in our magazine and I wish Neil and his colleagues even further success to that which they have already achieved.

Thank you Kevin - I really don't care if people like me or not - my wife says she varies from one day to another! BUT she says my redeeming qualities are that I speak my mind to people's faces and not behind their backs, don't bear grudges and I am extremely loyal to my friends - sometimes even if they are wrong - that is where Neil and I fell out in the past. I have to admit he was more right than me in our arguments but I hope he forgives me because I was defending someone who had been a long standing friend.

As I say I don't really know Neil but I hope to get to know him and other members of the IWTF and I look forward to seeing them play a full part in the battles to come. People are looking closely at the IWTF and I would love to see it continue to grow as a cohesive well disciplined representative organisation. Just Hunt I hope you will give Neil and the IWFT a chance - whether you continue to criticise me or not!

Being asked to pay 15 EURO in to support a rise campaign rally dosnt seem right either

I agree the IWTF is a young org and is feeling its way a bit ,BUT i too was in the

Horse andJocky that day and felt the passion and was realy excited about the whole thing

The IWTF needs to make it alot easier to join maybe a rep in each county or something similiar .

also i think the front page of any web site should be for Latest News .To tell the members whats happening

JH,

You were not asked to pay €15 to join the IWTF or to support the RISE rally - €15 is the entry fee to the largest and best game or country fair in the ROI. Your choice was whether to go to it or not.

If you simply wanted to go and support RISE I offered you a free ticket so what are you whingeing about?

And if you want to join IWTF I am sure you can give the chairman a call and send him the money without going to the fair.

You seem to have some issue with me - that's your call but why not at least have the balls to come forward and criticise under your own name!

JH,

Two very important points both the IWTF and RISE ASKED to be at our shows . WE DID NOT INVITE THEM although one of my colleagues is heavily involved in RISE and we were delighted to provide a platform for them.

Why did they want to be at our events - simple because they are the two largest countrysports events in Ireland and I presume they thought they would gain from being at them. Why would they not want to gain from our shows at no cost to themselves? Why would any sane country sports person object to them being at the two largest gatherings of country sports people in Ireland?

You say it is about numbers - of course it is for the IWTF, RISE and ourselves - again why would any sane country sports enthusiast want to object to demonstrations of the strength of the country sports community?

What do I know about you?

1. You appear to wish to attack me and our shows? And it appears you are prepared to attack virtually anyone or any organisation that supports them or is supported by them. One has to ask the question why?

2. You have attacked me, Neil, the IWTF and RISE from behind an alias? You are right that I don't know much about you but in my opinion anyone who can only issue widespread attacks on someone or something from behind an alias is a coward who hasn't the courage to voice his or her opinions openly. As such I consider your opinions are without merit or value because you don't believe strongly enough in them to put your own name behind them.

If one looks at your posts on our fairs one must ask why you should take such an interest in them and in attacking anyone who has an association with them?

Now since you claim I don't know you and you appear to know little about me - why would you attack me and our fairs?

I can think of only one reason - you are someone who does not like to see our fairs the success that they are! WHY?

Neil,

Great to see the IWTF at Birr. Sorry I missed you at the stand when I was up helping organise the show and digging - I wanted to make sure the latter was covered by www.fieldsportschannel.tv. I didn't get back up to see the judging as David undertook to look after the Mount Palmer side of the fair while I supervised the main site. As you can appreciate with potentially difficult ground conditions I had to be rather focused. By all accounts you did a good job judging and we all thank you for this.

Heard a lot of good comments about the IWTF and I think more established groups will soon realise that it is moving in the right direction.

The Tally Ho Dog Show and Raceday Saturday 3rd May 2025
As 7am on Saturday morning 3rd May 2025 rang out loud and clear in our house, I crawled out of bed and thanked god for allowing me another day on this beautiful landscape of ours called the Emerald Isle. With the joys of spring in my heart, Mr Fox away on his summer holidays, the work in the field completed for another season, it was show time again on this side of our Island.
Suddenly the seasons were telling me it was Tally Ho show time of the year again and time to get our Canine friends in the show ring and on the race course, for the start of the summer Dog show and Race Days schedule.
Some of us have had joyous occasions in our families since the last showing season, and some of us may have had great sadness, as fate can throw all sorts of problems in the pathway of life. As we dusted ourselves down after our winter woes, Saturday was a day to leave all our cares of yesterday behind and head to Crumlin for  the Tally Ho  annual dog show and race day.  And what a days enjoyment with our loyal Canine friends that was.
The weather was beautiful, but tinged with an east wind that would cut you in two. As we approached the field, we could see very clearly there was very little parking space left. Each year this show grows bigger and better. Peter Morgan being the caring gentleman he is made sure he kept a parking space for the now 2 senior citizens and of which we were very grateful.
By midday the field was full to capacity.  In the show rings there was a big turnout and a great mix of top quality dogs in all categories. 22 races and 28 children in child handling class.
As I moved around the rings, I met up with some old friends and some new ones too. Michael Reilly travelled up all the way from Tipperary. Yapper Hayes came up from Kilkenny and Stephanie O Connor and family and Mc Grath Family travelled up from Carlow.  All great doggie people and support every show and race day North and South of the border.
Stands were situated around the show ground. Paul Boyd with loads of canine supplies/ Alannah Harpur and her sister with some beautiful Tea Shirts and Mugs and Mary Kate Quinn was there with her amazing art work . What an interesting and talented lady to speak to. There was a burger stand on site and 4 toilets dotted all around the field.
Our children as usual were well cared for by the Tally Ho show organiser Peter Morgan, both in the ring and outside it. Two bouncy castles were on site and inside the ring were trophys, medals and big bags of sweets for every child. A real childrens paradise. Some sleepy we people on Saturday night.
Time waits for nobody. The moment had arrived after the long cold winter to get our Canine friends out of the field and into the show ring and on the Race course.

And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. I must not forget the man at the helm of this top show day. Peter Morgan your hospitality, excellent show and race day, magnificent trophies and prizes, your generosity  knows no bounds. I can honestly say our lives have been enriched with the excellent work and enjoyment you give to many families North and South of the border through your dog show on the day.
Peter we all look forward to your shows as they brighten up our darkest days and brings us away from the trials and tribulations of life, if only for a day. Your show is a credit to you for a one man band, along with all the time and energy you put into them to give us all a great days enjoyment.
Thank you for your friendship over the years and please do not stop running your shows. Yours in Country Sports to we meet again, God Bless.
