Hi tmar5h.

We are back to the "Which calibre is best for hunting?" argument. So the answer as always is....ALL air rifle calibres will do the job of killing clean and swift if you do your bit at the trigger-end.

headshot straight into the brain. No body shots unless close range into the heart and lungs or if you have FAC air.

.22 destroys a third larger tissue area than a .177 which, due to a larger frontal mass of the .22 pellet, is generally regarded as the better pellet for knock-down power.

.25 is bigger yet but needs a thorough appreciation of trajectory to shoot it accurately. Best at FAC level performance.

.177 is superbly accurate and flat-shooting but needs precision marksmanship to hit the brain area decisively at long ranges.

.20 is probably the best compromise of both the .22 and .177 calibres but, the range of ammo is not so plentiful. But that is improving all the time.

All the best.

hehehe 1.77 does what?

simple test, peice of roof lathing left out side for weeks, shoot a .177 in it..if not all the way through, shoot a .22 next to it, pelet depth.. but the wood cracks, on a skull its bludgion with a 22 verse clean through with a .177

at sub 12fp's that is..

truth is it dont matter which if your hittingyour killing it clean, as stated above its acuracy over marginal bigger noises.

At the risk of sounding abrupt or sounding like a c**t, if you require a follow up on all your shooting, you need to forget shooting on quarry and go backto paper targets

Sure we've all had the odd wounding (this is where a multishot comes into it's own) but when shooting quarry, it should be the exception rather than the rule

At 35 yards/meters, the Ultra will perform well, as will most guns made these day's  But a shooter must always remember tha "HE/SHE" is the weakest link  fi you do your part properly, the gun will do it's part with very little (if any) fault.

Hi

The ultra is a very good gun but like every body as said you have to do your part, until you can do your bit on paper at your chosen range and know your set ie gun ,scope and pellet

DONT SHOOT ANY THING LIVE

I'm currently addicted to targets, getting a right buzz from seeing the groups tighten up.

When i fit my Deben tracer to my HW80 I have to turn my vertical turret up 25 clicks to raise my zero as it drops off a considerable amount even with a light weight lamp on.

Might not need to with a pcp.

It puts my zero down by about 35mm Skot.

I stick the lamp on now and click my mtc up and its always 25 clicks.

A little surprised at first as the lamp hardly weighes anything but i reckon our more experienced comrades will be able to tell us exactly why.

Maybe harmonics/ weight, both?

I don't know, but its handy checking first before you try and whack a bunny at night with the springer.
