What's the best type of lurcher for catching rabbits.

Recommended Posts

In my opinion for rabbits, it would be a collie x all th way.

(not just because of the fact ive got one and see it work, but partly yes).

Member's will have seen all types of lurchers work so will say what they see/seen to be the best cross for rabbits.

i answered the question the last time it was asked along the lines of......fun hunters use beddy x's, whippet x's in fact allsorts..........pro hunters and the older guy's that have been there seen it

jeez guy's i have fun with my collie x and i'm not a pro hunter, ive kept and raced whippets for years (they worked a bit too ) ive had beddy x's, i'm definately not putting anyones type or favourite

I`m in the same boat as the OP, i want a pet for the kids and something i can take out on a walk and have a bit of fun with but also a dog that will bark if someone bangs on the door.......am i asking for too much.

I do like greyhound x collie but dont want a rough coated dog

Maybe you don't have any fun with collie x's and loads of fun with beddy x's, I had a lot of fun with collie x's years ago and I have a lot of fun with my Beddy x......... I'm definately not a pro hunter though it's all about FUN........

I know what birdogs oan aboot but its a secret so I,m no saying lol

Traitor :censored::D

awe fxck I will, I,ve got a whippet here I wouldn,t part with, great wee character, shit hot at marking, natural retriever, handy on the playing fields and I,m sure I could go on, definately more pros than cons,

But I also have a 1/2 cross collie, 1/4 bull, 1/4 greyhound here and if I had to to get rid of one I know it would be the whippet

reason being if I were to work both these dogs hard, ferreting through the day, lamping at night, 5 days/nights a week the whippet or any other whippet couldn,t last the pace, and thats what I think birddogs point was, If you,re wanting a hard bomb proof type the collie x is hard to beat for bunny bashing

all that said this wee whippet I have here is going nowhere cause she,s agreat wee dug and I,ll have another in the future probably, just my take on it :thumbs:
