Well in my experience PJ the chicks that have been hen hatched and free ranged have been better, growing quicker and generally seem healthier, than bator hatched chicks of the same age,   Cheers fd.

Foxdigger, I breed best to best by single matings from mainly two families. You are never far from the truth. Inbreeding is a method for big breeders. You need to breed a lot and a hen that is broody isn't producing and asian fowl aren't as good as laying as the english birds etctera, and after my final selections I will maybe keep a dozen.I keep a stud book with all my breeding experiences.

And I see what your saying abel, but do you not think that hen hatched chicks that are roaming with their mothers grow better and faster?
