in my neck of the woods a lot of vets practices are expanding bigger premises even hostpitals so pet owners should expect competative rates YES of course NOT. The missus has just told me about her dads neighbours first dealings with a vet and it goes like this he got a kitten for his young daughter it went missing sadly they found it DEAD in the tumble dryer (don't laugh)so he took it to the vets cos his daughter wanted him to .Vet says yep its dead do you want me to take its body away that will be £40 THANK YOU !!!!! hang on thats not the best bit the vet then sees the little girl is upset so he offers to give her back the kittens ashes if she wants them dad sees that his daughter is coming to terms with the death of her pet so he says fine and thanks the vet. when they return the ashes the bill comes to £143, Now i know people have to make a living but do you think this was just good business to help fund better care for our sick animals or exploitation. This episode has started to make me wonder At my vets i do'nt see the same vet twice always someone new so plenty of vets about the prices are riseing and they are about to move into new and bigger premises if they start to go the same way as the vets in this post i am going to forget about loyalty and start looking for a smaller practice.

Offered me the same thing when I got my old lurcher pts . Started showing me fancy urns . No thank you! Still cost me 100 odd quid.

I don't like what vets have become. I know they have to make money, but the differences between practises isn't just a cpl quid. Sometimes it's double , treble.

Also the mark up on wormers

there in the buisness to make money and normally owned by someone else the vets get a wage, gone are the days of the old fashion vet that served the community, same as alot of things really these days its all about the coin, and not the vocation

Vets are little more than sales outlets for pet food manufacturers and drugs companies these days. The vet I use don't try to force courses of regular vaccinations and flea treatments on you though, if you make it clear to them at the start that you're not going to be bullshitted to. They also know the score with working animals and don't look down their noses at you or pull faces when you tell them you go out and kill rabbits! :D That's why I stuck with them when I moved. It's a 22 mile trip to them now, but it's worth it and they're still cheaper than the ones more local to me. I took the wife's kitten into another vets earlier, and tried to pick some wormers and flea treatments up for the dogs. They werent having it though, insisted that I registered the dogs with them and booked them in for a once over first.. :censored: I politely declined and told them i'd be popping in past my other vets for them instead..
