A fantastic day of racing at Shanes Castle today. A MASSIVE WELL DONE to all the winners. The Master McGrath heats and finals will take some beating to bring such a high quality field of dogs together

Are dogs not disqualified for interfering, in Lurcher Racing ?   Cheers.

regarding bumping dogs they should be disqaulified whoever the owner is,the difficulty is identifiying the culprit when your running 4 /5 dogs in heats, the best way ive seen it run over here in england is the lurcherworld top gun competition,2 dog heats ,even if you have 64 dogs entered the winner only has to run 6 times, you could improve on this by also using a slipper, any dog turning its head is easily spotted, and if you run the qualifiers the same as the final you then know the dogs in the final are up to the task and persistent bumpers stand out like a sore thumb,it also makes for a great event, good luck to all taking part.wish the ferry wernt so expensive as i think a few from england would love to have a go.

They have 4/5/6 dog heats in Whippet and Greyhound racing here, and I think up to 8 dog heats in Greyhound racing in the US and Oz, and "fighters", "turners", whatever you want to call them, aren't tolerated ! If lurcher racing is as serious as some seem to take it; it shouldn't be tolerated there, either.

Cheers.

any dog turning the head should be out no matter what show race or owner,a bit of rubbing or crossing happens at them all but a dog turning the head should be out,

correct, but it has'nt happened yet , maybe there might be sometime soon

" Keep er Lit " Dog Show Sunday 26th April 2026
It was rise and shine time on Sunday morning and just as dawn was breaking into daylight, we were on our way to our first dog show of the year. Very soon deep in the heart of the County Antrim countryside we arrived at the now famous Doagh Equestrian, and the venue for the annual “Keep er Lit “ dog show and what a day that was.
As usual the grass was immaculately cut with the show rings well spaced out and plenty of cold water for our precious canine friends on a very warm day
As the morning progressed into noon, cars and trailers with dogs in tow filled the field to capacity.  There was a very large crowd at this now very popular annual show.   The craic and the banter was in full swing among the huntsmen and women, after waving good bye to Mr Fox and his girlfriend of on their summer holidays.
As I walked around the field I spoke to many of my canine friends of yester year. There was plenty of tea, coffee and chips on offer and Paul Boyd was there with everything you need in Country Sports gear.
Some great bargains was to be had in the  Equestrian shop on site with big discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into the shop, otherwise I would off went home penniless.
When showing was complete, it was Raffle Time, and as usual the raffle generates a lot of excitement around the field, with some great prizes on offer. Time passes so quickly and very soon it was show time.

And Finally, Finally Leigh Thompson and Paddy Gibson, what can I say that will praise this partnership enough. Your show was well organised, a roaring success, and a credit to all good sporting shows and a great window for Country Sports.  It was evident on the day a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes, with a heavy emphasis on our hard working dogs both in the field and in the ring, and to make this show so enjoyable for everybody on the day.
Leigh and Paddy, Thanks for the memory and I am already looking forward to more of the same in 2027.
