Summer Hunting.

Recommended Posts

some of the places i do(commercial shoots) i have to do it, IF i can i will ry and always let the vixen and ODD dog run any time of the year.

Cubbing, i hate it, suppose you get softer as you get older butt a task that at time MUST be done. given the choice id never kill a fox, simply let the terrier work it and then let it run but this in reality is not always the case.

Rabbits, i kill all year round, they are a pest and alot of the ground i cover is arable or has race horses so with that in mind it says it all..

working dogs in the hot weather, no fecker in their right mind enjoys it..

cold, wet weather 12 months a year sounds great to me!

That sounds about right mate, good post

To be honest if I have a young dog or a dog that needs a few easy kills to boost its confidence then you can stick your rule book up your arse....jmho

That sort of comment always comes up on summer hunting threads......you can just take your dog(s) for a walk without hunting you know. There's a different between going out in the country for a coupl

The fact is, in most places this time of year the argument is a little academic when it comes to dogs as all the crops are about 4 foot high anyway.

I'm going to start up again soon as I get my van back from the garage fuk things up for the local dickheads. will cull every cub i can find and milky bunnys. They don't stop why should i !

That's pretty much the attitude of most round here now, got to get in first, or some other f****r will, so its getting earlier every year, with may being a very popular month these days.

I know bud but i dont hunt local much anymore coz its been fuked buy idiots, so i'll start giving them a taste of there own medicine, keep my muts ticking over ready to go to some better places in the winter.

I will lamp all summer to feed the ferrets and one of my farmers said to me yesterday about rabbits they will get done as well ,but since i was supposed to have stopped ferreting in April because its the last month with a R in it the phones went three times for rabbit jobs with the ferrets so do i knock back a paying job as its summer no danger , Ive a few farms i control pests on all year but come autumn it swells up with folk who are happy just to have the rabbits controlled during the winter

I dont fancy it in the summer, its to hot for my dogs and I wont risk them missing the start of the season with daft injuries running on hard ground..

If I had to on request I would shoot rabbits or snare them..

I prefer saving them for me dogs.

I dont care to much if folk do it as long its not on my ground lol

Just a couple of questions, after having a funny kind of day today.

Who on here can honestly say that they don't summer hunt, and don't jump on the chance of doing it, and being able to use 'pest control' as the excuse (different from doing a call out when there is a genuine reason).

and secondly -

If you have access to land, and other folk hunt it as well, who love going out and filling their boots in summer, do you stick to your principles and keep to the winter, or just f**k it and do what they do, but try and get in first, killing as much as you can in summer?

Closed season for a reason !!!!

Well that's just for me. 6 months hard at it 6 months break, the dogs are glad off it as much as I am lol

This is the lesson i learned from that tragic day. While exercising the dogs late afternoon In the summer anything can happen like it did to me with my greyhound when she took of after a rabbit, when she came back she was fuked wich i thought was her being out of shape abit (not unfit just not as fit as she was in the winter months) buy the morning she was dead, I was gutted but thats life unfortuantly. I still do things the same as I did that day there was 5 dogs out that day and all the rest where fine! I believe it was a freak accident not only that but i dont think it helped she was a pure greyhound. She had a good life doing what she loved she loved. I don't believing dogs should be kept on leads on not exercised in the summer moths just cause its warm, know plenty of lads whos dogs rarely leave there kennels and it aint the way I do things and never will.
