paulus 26
Some interesting comments. Lab at least your honest haha. PJ - I think that falls under the 'got a valid excuse' category. Can't really be used for the many many folk that poach though, they cant exactly hold the farmer / permission up as an excuse. In general though, unless it's new permission, you wont have that problem if you have hit it in winter, and if you do, then it probably means the place is over run, and so quarry levels will not be affected that much by you hunting it in summer. Paulus - that doesnt count, i mean activly going out lamping, shooting or digging quarry for nothing other than sport and a laugh. in that case no then
Lab 10,979
I can 100% say i do not summer hunt............... .I also dont bother in spring, autumn and winter....... trust you fannybaws ha Technically if your dogs are not catching then your not hunting mate so thats you out....... But to answer the question i cant really say i do 'hunt'...ever!! I shoot a few pigeons in the winter for the freezer and making soup, i shoot the odd deer when in season,i shoot any fox i see 365 days a year on the rearing field and i shoot maybe twice a year at pheasants. The only thing i do do is work my dogs picking up maybe 40 days in the season and i can hardly call that hunting. Am i banned now....

That's a shit load more than a lot of the folk on here mate I can imagine it is mate but i really dont see myself as a hunter. I enjoy working the dogs, really enjoy it but thats the extent of my countryside pursuits. Sticking the gun out the window and popping a fox or deer is nothing and shooting pigeons for the freezer is limited now cause of low numbers.... I reckon i'll probably do more as i get older, nearer retirement age maybe. Incorporate fishing in there somewhere if its not feckin banned...

Most of the time, the population doesnt build up to a noticable level until end of summer anyway, then we start back. Most places though never recover to anywhere near the original level. And the farmers etc always have the card and number and know they can call at anytime if something needs sorting.

The Duncan 802
on some of my permissions, if I don't cull rabbits and foxes, they'll just find someone else to do it. So if I have to, I do it. But I do prefer to leave them if I can til autumn.
"Earth!" 503
some of the places i do(commercial shoots) i have to do it, IF i can i will ry and always let the vixen and ODD dog run any time of the year. Cubbing, i hate it, suppose you get softer as you get older butt a task that at time MUST be done. given the choice id never kill a fox, simply let the terrier work it and then let it run but this in reality is not always the case. Rabbits, i kill all year round, they are a pest and alot of the ground i cover is arable or has race horses so with that in mind it says it all.. working dogs in the hot weather, no fecker in their right mind enjoys it.. cold, wet weather 12 months a year sounds great to me!
