bull xs are feckn crap i would go out of dogs before i would keep one

wheaten x would be better than the bull x they got more brain than the bull x. jmho

Yeah much better

To be fair though slushy, depending how yours is bred there is probally only 1/8 or 1/16 bull in yours so hardly a bull cross in the true sense of the term. I personally like saluki Xs adding to the bull cross and then probally back to the bull cross again. Not that I've seen to many this way bred, but I've seen lots of bull x, and they seem to lack what the saluki could add, ie speed, stamina, turning, but there will be some which would loose what the bull adds. Over a few generations of honest breeding though, I'm sure you could achieve what your after. Just like the coursing lads have.

would you class a bull whippet grey x bull grey, a bull x or a lurcher bosun?

A lurcher mate... Only because it ain't that all purebred in that mix, though 'the old whippet' comes in various 'guises' and is a long way removed from the breeding a greyhound has, so even these little fellas sometimes ain't all that 'purebred', if ya choose ya whippet wisely.....

i'd disagree myself bosun a whippets awhippet end of the day yes they carry a bit of bull blood way back as do some greyhound, as chartpolski showed urs the other week with his dogs breeding. i have a whippet bull grey back to a bull grey and tbh he looks like a racey bull x so thats what i call him! would you say im wrong and should be calling him a lurcher and not a bull x?

ps bull x dont have rough coats lol so that tome is adding bull blood to improve on a lurcher line ie beddy x, deerhound etc

Alright lads just been thinking about bull x greys, I know alot of lads around me prefere genuine half x or second third etc generation and swear buy them. But I aint purely convinced.

What's your thoughts on adding different blood every couple of generations say like suluki greyhound or bull whippet back to the bull grey line, could adding a touch of some thing else every now and again produce better dogs?

Cheers

i thought you werent coming on here again cock hopper :toast: you just cant keep away can you :D

To be honest seen some good bullx's, Two stand out over the rest 3/4 and a straight half. Both were good dog at there job...

IMO i think Bull X's benift from a touch of Sal in the mix but thats for my own prefrence and type of work and land i hunt on, I know a few lads that keep Bull x's and weaten/bull types and they wouldnt put nothing into there own dogs apart from the same way bred types back across them (And as close as they'll dare), As they are after only a couple of types of quarry (Well since its only rats and rabbits theses day anyway) at most and they dont feel the need too add Sal/Collie/Whippet or what ever X into there dogs as dont want too lose exactly what the bull x's bring too there dog for the sake of a bit of wind/feet off the Sal and lose abit of fire (in theory) from doing so as that wouldnt suit the quarry there after, Most peolpe that get firstx's 2gen and so on choose that type for a reason (Or atleast they should do) as it suits them and there work type...

But for me i like a splash of Saluki....

just the reply i was looking for tiny, my dog has a splash of whippet i'd say he aint lost any qualitys that the bullx adds, but i believe a splash of suluki or the right wjippet blood can go a long way imo

good answer, i can see what you mean by wanting to keep a good lump of bull in the mix with what other lads do, and ive always think if you going to put the bull in or what ever the base line (what ever the breed) then put enough in there .? Prob a 1x bullx grey to a coursing dog then back to 1x bull xgrey, so you still keep enough bull in there for its tenacity = guts+power
