LW radio ferret finder

Just watched a video on you tube where someone claims to use a LW radio to pick up a mk1 collar ? I've put it into the search box on here and nothings come up i feel sure if it was right it would be on here first ?

I was told by someone a few years back that he knew a chap who had used a radio but think its SW you need.

He said you tune the radio in to the collar frequency and use the vol control to do locate / depth.

He assured me it was possible

if you turn the volume down it will just turn the volume down how the hech will that tell you the depth :icon_eek: you can turn it up and down at any height :laugh: :laugh:

joking aside, I just can't understand why someone who knows a bit about electrics hasn't knocked up a cheap alternative to debens ferret finder, they'd make a fortune and I can't believe it'd be that difficult if you knew what you were doing! wierd!

I would think that the dial on the side is just some sort of amplitude (volume) discriminator instead of a volume control in the literal sense.

 

As for why someone hasn't produced a market competitor to the deben stuff, I'm guessing that it can't be done for that much cheaper in reality and the market just isn't there to make a decent amount from the initial investment.

yeah I don't mean a company, I mean just jo bloggs in his shed with a few radio components (or whatever)?

mate of mine had one 20 year back,, just a little hand held transitor radio,, it worked just like the grey box,,, but as was said why bother,, especialy for my mate as he owned a box anway,,, mind you hes the tightest fecker you could meet
