I was told by someone a few years back that he knew a chap who had used a radio but think its SW you need. He said you tune the radio in to the collar frequency and use the vol control to do locate / depth. He assured me it was possible
stewie 3,387
might be possible but why bother??

rob190364 2,594
joking aside, I just can't understand why someone who knows a bit about electrics hasn't knocked up a cheap alternative to debens ferret finder, they'd make a fortune and I can't believe it'd be that difficult if you knew what you were doing! wierd! Born Hunter 17,960
I would think that the dial on the side is just some sort of amplitude (volume) discriminator instead of a volume control in the literal sense. As for why someone hasn't produced a market competitor to the deben stuff, I'm guessing that it can't be done for that much cheaper in reality and the market just isn't there to make a decent amount from the initial investment.
