Lab 10,979
Anyone getting bored listening to this nonsense about two footed tackles lately? It seems a game cant go by without a discussion on bad tackling. I've always thought its quite easy to tell the difference between a two footed lunge at a player looking like you are intending to cause harm rather than a tackle where a trailing leg clatters the opposite player?........ Yet we see ex-pro's like Shearer, Hansen etc discuss this and say some of these tackles are bad. FFS it looks like all football players will either have to put one lead football boot on shortly so they cant lift it of the ground or ban all sliding tackles......and when that happens i think i'll just give up watching!!! RANT OVER!!!....
WILF 51,127
They have to talk about some shit to pay the wages mate, what worries me is that young kids watch this shite and IMHO the modern crop of young players (12 to 17) are weaker for worrying about it

WILF 51,127
There is a world of difference between someone trying to actually hurt someone and a good hard fast tackle....the trouble is, FIFA and most referees don't know what that difference is!!!

It has to have an effect on the way the youngstres will play the game and also how they will be trained to a degree. Lets face it there aren't many players out there that are going in to break another fellow professionals leg, if any ,so if they win the ball and take the player to me whether its two feet or one foot they've achevied there goal in winning the ball. Last Old firm Kayal and McCulloch dived in for the ball and Kayal came out worse......but it was a perfectly good tackle in my eyes with both players winning the ball so play went on, as it should be!! Maybe if a player does come in late, high and deliberatley then maybe a sterner punishment should apply. For all these missed two footed tackles and silly clashes just let the game flow, it'll be better of for it...
roebuck220 80
My tackle's only about one foot, but i've done some damage with it.
RubyTex 1,957
FIFA and the FA are so out of touch it's unreal. They go off their own agenda and not what the public actually wants. Take was it Blackpool or Wolves who received a fine for fielding a 'weaker' side? Then Man Utd roll out the next week with the same amount of changes and don't get a fine ... Either way i'm also sick of hearing about tackles, and handshakes, and lack of handshakes and racism. Boring.
patterdalejoel 669
vincent kompany against manchester united got a red card, and he didnt even touch the player and the opposing player didnt even go down and he won the ball. i thought this was an excellent tackle, if that was a red card, there will no longer be tackling in football
RossM 8,149
Remember the old days with no shin pads and a two footed tackle was said to be dedication? Too much protection in the game nowadays and with the wages half these cnuts are on I would take that as danger money, get on with it and stop greetin......

gnasher16 31,602
Mine is not very fashionable thinking these days because our game has always been based on the " get stuck in " attitude, but lets face it that hasnt got us very far !.......... Id like to see a law come out that does away with any kind of tackle where a player is not on his feet.....that would stop sliding tackles or 2 footed tackles....tackle hard yes but you must be on your feet. If you look at places like Holland or Spain their youngsters are brought up with ANY tackle being a free kick to the other team !!....they encourage their youngsters to be good players standing up with a ball at their feet......over there a player like Ryan Shawcross at Stoke would never have made it as a professional footballer.......yet here he is an England International !....worth thinking about in my opinion

Maybe its us thats out of touch...........in England tackling is a massive part of the game but its not in other countries.......and when you look at who has success at International level in World competitions.......it suggests that we in the Uk are doing something different to the rest of the world because we have world class players for sure.........im not saying im right, its only a theory i have......but our " get stuck in " attitude has never encouraged players to be good with a ball at their feet, and for that we have suffered at International level at least. I thought you would have been one for seeing a nice firm but fair sliding tackle? What would happen then if all sliding tackles were outlawed, we'd never get to see that last ditch tackle that blocks a goal and saves a game? I never knew of the training techniques of Holland and Spanish sides actually, maybe this is the reason they are more skillful as they stay on ther feet more of the time but it would also explain when British teams play them in European tournamnets there falling about all over the place like they've been shot. I'd hate the game to be more like that and sadly it looks like we are heading towards it..
asanley 1,009
I think the main thing is to get the rule clarified and properly understood world wide , tackles that are acceptable in the premier are bookings and sending offs in europe I think this puts British clubs and players at a disadvantage when competing internationally .
