What do you think??

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of breeding these two dogs in august

Female: 20 inch high working kelpie cross sheepdog

Male : 22 inch high rabbiting (well he is retired now) whippet

My friend owns the whippet and she will be having pick of litter

Thats not strictly true like any first cross mating to a collie type its about being able to pick the pup thats thrown right if you can afford to run the pups on a bit till they are 12 wks or so it will make picking the right one easier

You've asked for opinions so here's mine.

I wouldn't mate the two of them together,I think most of them will turn out heavy set.But

then again you don't say what you want the pups to do when they are older.

If you are keen on breeding from the dam it might be a better idea to put a greyhound

over her,of course that would increase the height of the pups.

why do you reckon the pups will be heavy using a pure whippet but wont using a pure greyhound ????????

it would be handy to no what you want to work the pups on . :hmm: ..all the same they wouldnt be my cup of tea ... :snack: the kelpie cross isnt leggy enough and looks heavy .....jmo....best of luck what ever you choose to do .... ;)

i find it pointless to breed whippet sized lurchers as whippets

will out match any small lurcher.whats the point in sacrificing

speed and strike for coat and stamina :hmm:

because with the estra coat the dog will be able to work for longer periods in harsher weather ... and as for stamina then it will obviously be able to have more runs on game ... simple really ......

well the dogs got to be faster than the quarry so unless your

hunting hedge hogs there not going to be much good and i

am not trying to be ignorant just trying to save the boy

disapointment not unless he wants the dog for bushing.

he would be far better putting a greyhound over it and

getting some usefull pups. :D
