mole catcher 1
OK, just for research reasons im asking all ferreters for JUST ONE REASON EACH why they think sliders are better than rings? Again just for research im going to try and answer why they serve no better than the good old fashioned ring. PLEASE NOTE: this is not ment to start a row about whos methods are best, so please no personal remarks Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Personally i can not see any advantage over traditional rings. The only time i have missed rabbits out of nets is when a hole was not covered properly due to it being an awkward exit / too big / the net was too small or it got snagged. I can see some theory behind it.. ie.. a smooth run for the individual lines and it is a fantastic contingancy plan if you have no rings but i don't think i'll switch. Just my 2 cents... DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , I HAVE A FEW REASONS " WHY I " THINK SLIDERS HAVE A COUPLE OF ADVANTAGES OVER THE RING ....... AND ONE MINUS AGAINST THEM ........... BUT .......... IAM KEEPING THEM TOO MYSELF , ...... SOME LADS DONT TAKE CHANGE WELL ...... THATS UP TO THEM ......... I PREFER TO LOOK FORWARD , IF I FIND SOMETHING BETTER I WILL CHANGE AT THE END OF THE DAY , IVE CAUGHT BOAT LOADS OF CONIES WITH RINGS ON NETS ........... AND NO DOUBT WILL IN THE FUTURE ..........AS I WONT THROW A GOOD NET AWAY FOR HAVING A SET OF RINGS ON IT .............. ITS JUST I WONT BE MAKING ANYMORE WITH RINGS ON THEM ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post

Vermin Dropper 2
JUST ONE REASON EACH why they think sliders are better than rings? I don't. :thumbs-up: never lost a rabbit due to there being a ring on a net rather than a slider, just my tuppence worth. Quote Link to post
whin 463
sliders are no new invetion guys had some made out of plastic years ago perspex , and saw some with hardwood sliders , made of beech ,the diff is sliders slide and rings can get snagged up easier , a net made with sliders opens better etc we had double ended sliding nets years ago ,some with no rings some made out of anything wire sliders made out of fence wire etc all the best Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
,the diff is sliders slide and rings can get snagged up easier , a net made with sliders opens better etc If we look at it from a basic level about friction surely it is the pull cord that is to blame not the ring/slider? A ring made from 3mm steel wire and a slider made from 3mm steel wire are made out of the same stuff, just fabricated differantly. add these to a net that has cords of say 6mm braid has a surface area touching steel of 12mm (2cords of 6mm =12mm surface area) possible if it didnt have a centre core (flat braid). if you have cords of 3mm the surface area would be 6mm (2x3mm=6mm) meening that the area that is touching the cord is halved thus causing less friction, thus giving you a faster running net. how do rings get snaged up any less than sliders? their wider(the slider). PLEASE remember im not trying to prove whos methods are right and wrong, just a bit of research on my part Quote Link to post
chillitt 0
What the f**k is a slider?! Its whats on that last net I gave you! I found some 'offcuts of 3/4"chain at work, cut em into sets of 3 links, and beat the middle one flat. Not tried em yet so no idea if they work any better... Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
I reckon sliders came into there own during the war when rings were hard to aquire .Ive got purse nets 50 years old with wooden sliders at the top and sewn on to the drawcord at the bottom .Ive got other nets my uncle gave me years ago made with a wooden ruler for sliders .The only thing sliders have over rings is i tie my bottom ring onto the drawcord so its only the top ring that closes the net ,were as with sliders they both close the net so they might be a millisecond faster closing a net .Each to there own ive knitted a few but always gave them away as one or two might be okay but with two pegs per net there no for me Quote Link to post
whin 463
moley done rabiting fir years and well , ive used rings for years , but i still think sliders with a metal peg at the bottom and wooden peg at top closes better than one peg the rabbit cant lift the net ,as the tealer makes sure it doesnt , Quote Link to post
